My rear door is locked and will not open. Fitted new latch but no change. Tried holding open and close central locking switches. Noting working. How do I get into motor which is in bottom door, I believe. David

Will it not open from inside or outside or both?

I looked on google and it shows how to get to the solenoid and carry out a repair, it is quite taxing but doable

Yes - it is rough, but doable
While you are in there, install a manual release cable
In case it ever happens again

Good luck

It might not be the latch solenoid but instead the switch mechanism above the license plate.

Yes, one would think the central locking switch procedure should bypass the rear door switch but my experience was that it did not. The signals that go thru the switches are computer signals rather than "power" signals, hence are millivolt type signals so it does not take much corrosion to stop them. In other words, perhaps you have a switch problem rather than a solenoid concern

Two links as below to files in my gallery related to the rear hatch.

This link is how to replace the switch above the license plate. The switch corrodes due to moisture etc and then will not conduct the millivolt computer signals. Mine was soldered directly to the wiring harness but in later years, there was a plug connector but regardless, it is replaceable without buying a new D3. I recall that the switch would work kind of if the engine was at idle but if off, then it would not work. I took this to be because the system voltage was higher with the engine running than when all off.

This link is how to install a manual release if you end up pulling the interior carpet section off the rear of the door again re the solenoid that operates the latches.

This is a link to all the files in the gallery - some have a few thousand views - big by Land Rover standards so other files might be interest.
