I broke 4 of 8 original injectors with the special tool when I did this job. It’s probably the worst part of the timing job.

At 130k miles the injectors are nearing the end of life anyway. That is a problem shops have to confront on jobs like this. When we do the "basic" job, and there is an issue like this, it's a comeback and the shop's fault. But if we price all the commonly needed new parts into the job, it ends up costing far more money. Of course the more complete job will end up better and last longer, but that is a challenge every shop faces and a reality every owner must recognize.

One thing shops can do is present possible risks like this, and say, "We do our best, but you may also end up needing . . ."

That said, there are other possible causes of this problem and I am not saying this is it. I am just pointing out there are risks in these jobs and they can end up costing a good but more than hoped to get right

My idle was always smooth as glass for the first 3 years of ownership. I had the timing chains done at my local dealer right before my CPO ran out, and after that I thought my idle was a little rougher, but it wasn't enough that I was certain it was rougher or thought there was a problem.

A few weeks ago I had a local indy do the front and rear crossover pipes, water pump, fan clutch, and belts, and after that my idle is so smooth it's hard to tell if the engine is running.

Almost makes me wonder if the intake wasn't perfectly reinstalled after the timing chain job.

Not sure I agree with this. There's no reason the injectors can't last 200kmi+ if using Top Tier fuel with occasional shots of quality injector cleaner (Techron, Red Line SI-1, etc). Now if they are fed the cheapest gas for years, that's a different story...
