As an individual in aero studies air flow will sound when spaces permit wind / air in this sense to flow disturbed.

Therefore, try to fill the gap with minimal cost - solution - purchase from Home Depot or the likes a roll of styrofoam
used in covering hot water pipes that are out in the open. They are grey in color - come in a couple of diameters - find the one that is slightly bigger in size and wedge the roll into the open space. Test your theory, if bigger is required you can cut and glue the styrofoam to increase the diameter. Bob's Your Uncle!

Hi Smerk, funnily enough I actually tried this exact thing a while ago and sandwiched it between the fairing and the roof rack but at the time it did not reduce the noise much. however I have since cut off 2 other square light bar mounts that were pertrouding at the top rail near the top of the fearing so maybe I should try again and check for results...
The squares can be seen in both pictures below and in the second one the the foam wrap test I mention above.

We bought a 2011 LR4 and had some wind noise when hitting 50+ mph. We don't have a rack like you have, but I was able to quickly identify it as a loose A Pillar. Landrover is big on putting these exterior sections using clips which break over time. A little janky but this was my issue and was able to figure it out by just slightly wiggling the A Pillar on both sides of the windsheild.

Here's a vid to help illustrate what I'm referring to.

Yes I did used to have a loose Pillar but I replaced it and the clip last year and still lots of noise though, thanks for your input though

Did you use aftermarket clips? There’s a difference when you compare them to the LR ones. The LR clips hold the A trim much tighter, at least that’s the case with mine.

Ok so last week I put some gorilla tape over the seal on the sunroof as we have had torrential rains in LA and the tape has cut the roof rack noise in half !!!! If I get a new sunroof seal do you think it will have a similar effect ?

I’m sure it would help some. After a few years in the socal sun the seal must be a bit crispy.

How easy is the sunroof seal to replace, would I have to take the roof rack off ?

I added a 36” x 14” sheet of dense rifle case foam padding between the moonroof glass and retractable mesh windscreen and that has helped a lot. I don’t have a fairing on my Rhino/FrontRunner rack and don’t feel like I need one with the foam in place. Maybe replacing the moonroof seal would help even more. The LR4 with rack is indeed loud, much more so than a similar setup on my LX470.
