Greetings from the New Orleans area. My 2015 LR4 has not seen much off-road adventure, but it will hopefully soon be trekking trails in North America. I would appreciate your guidance in the selection of prudent modifications to help make our adventures safe, comfortable, and fun as my wife and I will soon be empty-nesters and have belatedly though fortunately have decided to get out of the office and make up for lost time outside seeing North America through the back-roads and trails testing ourselves as novice overlanders and hikers, hopefully making friends with and in nature. We are not seeking to "break the bank" while modifying our LR4. We want to make it safer and more comfortable for us to travel for (1-4 week) trips mostly on the backroads while camping/boondocking. I am not handy, so recs for mechanics/garages and up-fitters would be welcome. As my wife likes to say, I tend to break things making the situation worse (LOL).

Best mods are food/water/shelter/tire repair kits (with air tanks) and recovery gear. A good quality Satellite tracker or two way tracker to send messages. The more you modify the vehicle itself the farther away from help you can get before getting stuck.

Well honestly the only thing in my mind that I would be worried about on a trip such as that is a leaking air strut/worn compressor and the coolant crossover pipes. Also make sure your alternator is charging above 13 volts. Anything else that could fail during a trip is manageable to an extent I guess...Those are the mains things that could bring the truck to a halt. I'd also make sure you have towing coverage with your insurance policy. All of those things addressed would make me sleep better at night during such a trip.
