Great write-up! I would love to have this installed too!

I already have my Video-in-Motion installed and don't feel like shelling out another couple hundos for Apple CarPlay. I'm going to do a poor man's version of screen mirroring with a firestick over HDMI to RCA converter for $40.

I had a similar problem. On the NaviPlus receptacle, I spliced the RED +12V wire and hooked it up to a latching switch with a LRP Bracket. So I have direct control on the power draw by the NaviPlus unit. The other switch is a dummy switch for cosmetics.

We have a 2015 with rear seat entertainment system. I'd love to figure something out. the stock tech sucks. Any plug and play out there.

Out of curiosity, does the NaviPlus give you all the OEM system info?

Great write up and pics by the way!

Update: I answered my own question by actually going to the NaviPlus website. Yes, it retains all OEM functionality.

The only real down side I see is the lack of full audio system integration. The AUX port is ok, but not what I'd call the greatest audio interface in the world.

How is this done?
And do you lose any factory headunit features?

Video in Motion is different from Carplay. The Video in Motion allows you to use the factory screen as if the truck is in (P)ark and parking brakes on while you're in motion or (D)rive.

I got this, because it's super dangerous to drive, reach behind the headrest while pointing your dvd remote perpendicular to the headrest monitor, trying to see what you're clicking on, and change whatever it is that your 2 year old kid wants to watch like Frozen for the Nth time. It's easier to simply have the video in motion, select the movie, and play. The video in motion box plugs into the factory plugs.

I just finished installing the NaviPlus (Australia) CarPlay system in my 2011 LR4 and it works GREAT, with one exception. The component that provides the wireless connectivity is always on and runs the battery down.
@TahoeDog I'm curious to know does CarPlay work on the rear monitors, selectable rear monitor outputs, or just the front screen?

@djkaosone NaviPlus just works on the front main screen. Haven't seen anything to allow you to show it on the rear screens. To be honest, I haven't tried using the rear screens in a while as they are so small and my kid has outgrown watching videos on trips on them...

I just finished installing the NaviPlus (Australia) CarPlay system in my 2011 LR4 and it works GREAT, with one exception. The component that provides the wireless connectivity is always on and runs the battery down. Documentation is not great, but NaviPlus support was excellent with my few installation questions. They just showed me how to re-wire the power connection into the AUX feed so they unit will fully shutdown when the doors are locked. Looks like a simple wire cut/splice with minimal soldering.

I would say the installation was hard, 7 out of 10, and not for the faint of heart as you have tear apart the entire console and solder a wire (or two) and then figure out how to place all the components and 2 circuit boards back into a small space. But well worth it!

This should *hopefully* allow the NaviPlus system to fully power off when the doors are locked...

Quick update. I just finished reconnecting the power lead to the ACC connection on the Video unit connector and it solved the "always powered on" issue. WiFi/Bluetooth NaviPlus/Carplay signals go off when the doors are locked.
Great write up thanks! Does the OEM backup camera still work when you go into (R)everse?
