I recently replaced the water pump and front crossover on my 2013 LR4 5.0L. Thought I was good to go for a while until I read a recent post of a blown motor (overheat) due to a failure of the heater manifold. I wasn't aware that the heater manifold was a potential issue otherwise I would have changed when I did the front crossover and the water pump. Now I'm a bit nervous and thinking I should get on this asap. My rig has 87K miles at the moment. Should I be concerned? Also, while I'm in there I was thinking that I would change the 8 o-rings for the intake manifold. That was until I checked the price... $25 each?!!! Now I'm wondering if that is really necessary. These o-rings are original, as I never changed them when I did the front crossover. I would imagine if they weren't sealing properly that I would have noticed by now?

And another thought I had... Is there such a thing as an aftermarket alarm that could be installed that would give an audible alarm if a sudden drop in coolant pressure occurred? Does such a thing exist? Seems like that could potentially save a lot of these 5.0L's that have a crossover failure. Just a thought.

I highly recommend changing the crossover.

Good idea on the coolant pressure alarm, I’ve been thinking about installing a temp gauge but haven’t decided the best spot to locate the sending unit.

Here is the joy of living in Canada:

Lucky8 set of 8 intake gaskets $100 USD
Shipping $84.81 USD

Total $184.81 USD convert to $236.80 CAD Lucky8 really screws us Canadians.

FCP Euro Is much cheaper at about $84 USD delivered but does no include duties. Who know what that will be. I'm assuming their parts are not OEM.

Thank you for the suggestion though.

How is this screwing you? The current CDN/US exchange is $0.78. International shipping is expensive yes but it is always tricky. You could ship to a Montana Border holding warehouse if you want those cheap US shipping charges.

Do you work for Lucky8 lol. $100 for parts that will basically fit in a letter envelope and $84 to ship? I get lots of stuff shipped from the US and nothing comes close to the shipping cost from Lucky. I'm sure they tack on a significant handling charge, but I digress.

I didn't know that it was an option to send to a "border holding warehouse". That is a great idea, thank you for the suggestion.

Nice, that looks like it would do the job. Did you install one of these?

No I don't. In my experience with these smaller shops the Canadian volume is miniscule so they don't spend time exploring better shipping options. They just select what is available and go form there.

I did a video on this project on my 2013 last December (2021) - it's a beast at 90 minutes long - but see the index.
I specifically show how much compression occurs on all the o-rings and on the manifold gaskets.
Yes, I would absolutely install new intake manifold gaskets - all 8 of them...

(Will be doing the 2016 next month and will post the video as soon as I can.)
