Prep continues for my first “big” overland trip. Getting close to heading out for the first segments of the East Mojave Heritage Trail, a bigger, longer, more remote version of Mojave Road.

To that end, because camp time won’t be sufficient to linger around while Solar recharges my solar generator, the solution was the Lensun hood mounted panel. I’ve run cable back to the cargo area where I’ll connect to my solar generator to recharge the lifepo4 batt after using it overnight to run the fridge.

Also bolted up the TF sliders. Went about as expected. They are pretty good for what I intend to do.

And then some underbody bling from APT. Opted for some additional protection after the snow run.

Oh, nice, a second option for hood solar aside from the cascadia 4x4. Did the panel come with the tape to attach it pre-applied, or did you have to do that? Are you going to connect it to the vehicle battery too, or only your lifepo one?

So already had a homebrew battery box with an MPPT so I only needed the panel, and Lensun was super easy to work with, responsive to emails etc. I ordered just the panel and you do need your own two rolls of VHB to attach. Use LOTS of VHB. I didn't use enough on the front edge and it started to lift up so I had to squirt a bunch of silicone adhesive back up in there. For now, it's just directly to my standalone system. I didn't want to start messing with a dedicated dual batter system or getting a DC/DC charger, but that may come in the future.

are you planning on applying any elastometric sealant to the joint between the panel and the vinyl, to keep crud from building up in the interface by the tape?

What does your panel's power cable routing look like? Can you snap a picture from the side of the windshield end of the panel, showing all that?

Sure. I used some adhesive zip tie mounts I found at my Ace. I stuck some VHB on their bases and then stuck them to the lower portion of the hood and routed the cable into the driver’s side area where the brake res is.

Just a little comparo as I’ve hit 12 months with the truck. I feel like it needs a name but I haven’t come up with anything. Anyways, here’s to 12 months of trouble free ownership!

I’m not really doing a trip report bc I put a bunch up on my IG but here’s a sample from our week across the Mojave a few weeks back. In all I think we covered just over 300 miles on the East Mojave Heritage Trail. It was an awesome time running with the NorCal Land Rover Club!
