Before I order a new compressor are any on you running the lucky 8 HD compressor and how has it held up? Or would I be better off running the original Hitachi?

I bought an original Hitachi but aftermarket and it's been on about 6 months with no issues. Before that I rebuilt the original Hitachi and and it lasted about 3 years. I want to think it was like $160, not sure but it was exactly the same compressor as the one I took off but no LR logo.

Same here. Had a Hitachi on my LR4 that was loud and probably could of purchase all the replacement components for it and done it my self thanks to YouTube but I decided to purchase an aftermarket one eBay instead for around $200 including the replacement fuse.
2 years later… still quiet and going strong! I have had to change a valve block since but that’s it… not bad for a 10yr old car.
If I get another 2 years and have to replace… It’s still cheaper than buying a Hitachi or the one from lucky8.
Hope this helps

I think the original Hitachi was not all that bad really, there was an issue with the drier and beads getting clogged but my Hitachi lasted 13 years with the drier/beads being replaced at the 5 year and 90k mark. I think the switch the the AMK was more the result of the Hitachi plant getting flooded many years ago and parts unavailable for a while rather than that there was such a "problem" that LR had to switch suppliers. It seems simpler to buy a new Hitachi from Lucky8 but if you opt for the AMK here is an install guide if you want it.

As far as I know, my 2007 is still running its original compressor
No record of previous owners replacing it

I completely refreshed it at 120k, now have 170k
If it ever dies, I will replace with same for sure

Thanks for the replies, I ordered a new Hitachi and rebuilt the old one. I have a LR3 and LR4 that both use the same compressor so this will give me a back up. I did try the amazon units, first one lasted 5 months and that replacement lasted less than a 100 miles which led me to just but the original compressor.

I got the Hitachi about three years ago and it works fine. Popped it in. Restarted a few times and it took. Ended up also having to repair wiring about six months later, because of water leaks, but the compressor has been good.

I had a problem with lucky 8 standing behind their aftermarket compressors. I had two fail in very short order, they said I had something else wrong and would not replace the last one. I put in a used AMK off eBay and have been running it for 2-3 years now

Do you have the link to the aftermarket that you purchased?

Does anyone have a reliable source for the rebuild kit for the Hitachi? I bought a rebuild kit for the front valve block from ebay and the rings didn't match so I just opted to buy a new block. Thanks in advance.
