Another strange question…..I’d like a full size spare but I’m having trouble finding a single 20inch rim. Would I be able to just use one of my old 19inch rims and put a tire on it that matches the size of my 20’s?

example:
255/55/20=31’’ diameter and 10’’ width
255/60/19=31’’ diameter and 10’’ width

thoughts?

It should work fine as a spare, but I wouldn’t drive it on a regular basis. In other words, I probably wouldn’t put it into the normal tire rotation, which is one advantage of having a full size spare.

If you have a set of 19’s, why not use those instead of the 20’s. More sidewall rubber is a key metric in getting more off-road capability. Or sell your 19s and your 20s to fund a new set of 18s (and get a whole lot of storage space back in your garage).

Ya I would only use the 19inch spare as a "spare" and in my mind it makes sense that the same diameter tire/wheel would be fine to use but just wanted to make sure.

My wife drives it as her Daily and wanted black wheels and I found the 20's off a newer Discovery and pulled the trigger. I like the tire options on the 20's over the 19's as well.

The thought did cross my mind about selling the 19's and 20's to get 18's so I put the 19's up on Offer up and just can't get anyone to buy the damn things. I'm wondering if I could even give them away hahaha.

You have a rabbit hole you must go down and go down alone before making a decision. However I will add this. I elected to go with a 265/65R18 which is the largest 18" tire you can use and still:
A. Be able to operate (with limited turning radius) if EAS fails/deflates (any larger and the tire will contact fender liner making you 100% STUCK)
B. Be able to use the stock spare tire location

This is also a tire size with a lot of good options such as Nitto Ridge Grappler in LT rating which means heavy duty sidewalls and puncture resistance. And it is meaty enough for most offroading needs, at least at Land Rover levels and "style" (as opposed to the Jeep brute force apocalypse approach i.e. 37s on 17s, aired down to 8psi with bead lockers LOL).

Rubbing is only in reverse at FULL lock, otherwise no issues.

I elected to go with the Tuffant alloys which I cannot endorse enough.

Been reading through threads…….are some seriously riding on 275/55/20 with no mods and minimum rubbing? That’s a 31.9 inch tire!!!! I thought 31.5 265/65/20 is pushing it!

Just an update…..

I went to put on some Tokyo’s open countries 255/55/20 but tire shop sold them errr. The shop manager suggested I try the 275/55/20 KO2’s they had used at about 90% thread. I told them I don’t think they will work but we tried anyways.

Well I can report I have zero rubbing at “normal height“ And very minimal at lowest.

Tires are much much heavier than the 255/55/20 street stock tires that come with the newer Discovery wheels but the ride is great for a AT.

Im really surprised no rubbing and I wonder if the Discovery wheels I put on the LR4 have a offset different than standard LR4 20’s that a tire a little taller like the 275/55/20 allows it to fit? Is so, maybe go out and buy a set of Discovery rims if you wanna run 275/55/20’s.

Can you share some pics?

Maybe the fact they are 90% tread is also helping the situation.
