Earlier post: My difficulty of trying to remove the above noted component. At 85 yrs. my hand strength is no longer what it was yrs. past (ref. pulling out the green knob and rotating it to the vertical position), Being Sunday and having been trying to remove the receiver the past day and a half I decided let's ask the Lord for some help. Living in a drought area and living on gravel roads there's lots of dust which gets into the tightest places.

Solution: Started by blowing out all the accumilated gravel dust, positioned the key full clockwise, pulled the knob outward and rotated to the vertical with two hands once that was accomplished held the knob in the vertical position grabbed a previously positioned light sileage hammer giving the receiver tow ball a light tap and out popped the unit.

The female/male receiver components were scrubbed with a small wire brush then blown out with air, lightly coated with Marvel Mistry oil, and slipped back together.

Hope the above may be of help to anyone experiencing the same problem.

I’ve been cursing that hitch every time I remove it since I acquired the vehicle in my late 30s. Doing it at 85? I’m impressed and thanks for the tips.

Like Holzhacker, at 77 I've found the hitch is a heavy bugger to deal with. Keeping the mechanism clean as had been recommended is the solution.

My challenge (at 81) has always been that the key and the green knob need to be moved in opposite directions.

Enjoyed reading all your feedback, used trailer today upon return parked the unit then decided to find out how the D-receiver would pop out, pulled and turned the knob down and the receiver slipped right out no fuss whatsoever.
Cleaning followed by a bit of Mystery oil did the trick. You all take care.
