So this is probably a long shot but I can’t not try. I just picked this rover up and the motor is seized. Looks like oil starvation ar this point but I still need to pull the heads. Knowing my luck I’m going to need a engine. So anybody have one laying around?

First post, hopfully posted in the right place

Thanks,
Justin

What is your definition of decent? A used but functioning V8 is going to cost $5000-$10000 depending on miles.

It depends how long you can wait. I’m actually in the process of swapping my NA for the SC version. My NA runs fine, but it’s a high mileage engine at 170K miles. Really all it needs is the timing gear swapped….VERY easy with the engine out. But I decided to swap the whole engine instead….cause I like a challenging project!

That said, we’re moving from Maine down to Memphis at the end of the month and the Sc engine is still at the machine shop so I won’t actually make the swap till late July, August sometime after I arrive in Memphis and get a little settled. The LR4 is one of our DD’s until I start the swap. FYI, mine is a 2010 model.

If you can wait for it, I’ll sell you mine the second I get it out for $3K.

my used engine(same year, 40k fewer miles) was 6900 shipped from a dismantler on Ebay. Also consider sourcing a 5.0 engine out of a Jaguar XF, as they're apparently the same/very similar and somewhat cheaper.

I sourced my SC engine from a jag, the only real differences I’ve found are the oil pan, oil pick up tube and oil pump manifold are different. I think I spent roughly $400 sourcing used LR parts to convert the jag engine.

I have heard, but can not confirm that the accessories are a little more robust on the LR engines as they’re supposed to be able to go through water….but I can’t prove or disprove that theory.

Decent being not seized but still in need of head gaskets or something of that nature. I believe my top end is good so if I can find one with a good bottom end maybe I can make one good motor out of 2 bads if possible

Man that’s a good price! To be honest I’m not sure if I could wait that long but only time will tell. I will keep you informed and thank you much for the offer. Good luck with your move!

I read the alternator is waterproof in a brochure, or some Land Rover document. I tried finding that same document a while back, and couldn't.

Not sure about anything else though.

No worries! If you can’t wait and find a one sooner, go for it!! It’s just an option, that’s all! I don’t even have my SC engine back from the machinist yet!

I could be wrong, but I don't believe any 5.0 LR4's sold in the US came OE with a Supercharger... (title of your message)
