LR4 Air Intake Insulation

Was inspecting sun roof drain connection behind air intake grill (2016 LR4) and saw what looks like a bag of insulation in the opening below the air intake. Tried to pull it out, but was afraid of bursting bag. Anyone know what this for? It is on both sides.

I saw that too, but I think only on the passenger side.

It's unnecessary, you can remove that and the foam sponge from soaking up water.
