I had one that replaced the factory head unit. The type marketed as ‘Tesla’ style. Anyway it lasted 2 years. Started flickering, ran really hot and the contrast started going, that was in addition to the horrendous glitches and software crashes. So back to the og I went.
To be honest. In my case I use Bluetooth for the music, the phono was nowhere near as good and the message dictation and narration you have with car play was underwhelming.
So to be honest, if you absolutely have to have car play/android auto then go for it, but I warn you about buggy software and glitches. Did I mention it had a lot of software glitches? If it’s a luxury/like to have then I probably wouldn’t.
The only downside is the Gaia gps, Apple Maps or wayze. But to be honest I’m not missing them enough to give it a second thought apart from writing this post.
A quick review on the og unit. Solid as a rock, contrast great compared to the aftermarket, a bit slow, no glitches or software crashes.
One caveat, I do go off-road with my LR4 and this could have caused some of the issues, but the end result is the same for me.
