I have installed a CarPlay standalone screen. It’s ok, it does mostly work seamlessly but was very quirky to get it to talk to the LR. For long trips I feel this is the best low cost solution, for under $300. I really only use my truck for trips so this is fine for me.

thats not bad.

I'm still waiting for something that replaces the factory screen with a newer (brighter, more responsive) display and ties into all the factory stuff. I'd pay good money for that.

Where did you get the unit and how did you integrate it? Looks good - thanks for sharing :).

It’s not really a head unit, just a screen. From Amazon, I purchased that version due to the double Bluetooth radios but it appears as if I didn’t need that. In fact the LR got ****** off doing that. An iPhone can be connected to the screen and the vehicle at the same time.

I had been researching this myself. I found a couple options, but I'm kind of holding off right now because in reality, my 2011 LR4 does what I need it to do with just a Bluetooth adapter. But here are a couple videos I've saved. One is a very detailed installation of an integrated system the fits inside the dash and allows you to use the original screen. The other allows you to use a regular android tablet (and probably apple if that's your flavor) to install carplay/appleplay and use the steering wheel controls. There are valid reasons for both, depending on the use of your truck. I'll also include the Aliexpress address for the conversion kit. Good luck!

I’m interested in the one that uses the original screen for sure. It seems all of the ones that replace the screens are glitchy and don’t allow factory functions. Has anyone installed this?

I had one that replaced the factory head unit. The type marketed as ‘Tesla’ style. Anyway it lasted 2 years. Started flickering, ran really hot and the contrast started going, that was in addition to the horrendous glitches and software crashes. So back to the og I went.

To be honest. In my case I use Bluetooth for the music, the phono was nowhere near as good and the message dictation and narration you have with car play was underwhelming.

So to be honest, if you absolutely have to have car play/android auto then go for it, but I warn you about buggy software and glitches. Did I mention it had a lot of software glitches? If it’s a luxury/like to have then I probably wouldn’t.

The only downside is the Gaia gps, Apple Maps or wayze. But to be honest I’m not missing them enough to give it a second thought apart from writing this post.

A quick review on the og unit. Solid as a rock, contrast great compared to the aftermarket, a bit slow, no glitches or software crashes.

One caveat, I do go off-road with my LR4 and this could have caused some of the issues, but the end result is the same for me.

Stu.

I have one of the ones that replaces the factory nav and keeps everything else stock. Besides the "lesser" audio quality, its rock solid.
