I had been researching this myself. I found a couple options, but I'm kind of holding off right now because in reality, my 2011 LR4 does what I need it to do with just a Bluetooth adapter. But here are a couple videos I've saved. One is a very detailed installation of an integrated system the fits inside the dash and allows you to use the original screen. The other allows you to use a regular android tablet (and probably apple if that's your flavor) to install carplay/appleplay and use the steering wheel controls. There are valid reasons for both, depending on the use of your truck. I'll also include the Aliexpress address for the conversion kit. Good luck!

Question about this- do you have to tell the tablet to connect to that Bluetooth receiver every time you start the truck?

This one is ok. The screen is barely ok. Again this one has two Bluetooth radios but I guess that wasn’t needed. I guess with this one you could put a movie on an SD card and broadcast it to the vehicle with the extra Bluetooth radio. I probably won’t do that. For CarPlay it’s ok but there are cheaper options.
What is it about the screen that is barely ok? I've been looking to pick up one of these for my 2016 and hoping it is at least a serviceable touch screen.

Time for "just got out of a dumb meeting and am partially braindead thoughts."

Part of me wonders if we aren't thinking of this the wrong way and instead of using an external thing for carplay, we install just install an aftermarket stereo and then use an external thing for the OE Land Rover stuff we want to keep.

For example, could there be a way--iiD tool, most likely--were we could view the information on the 4x4 screen on an external device like our phones?

I mean, besides being fun to look at, the 4x4 screen is useless. Not like on newer trucks where you can interact with it or change settings.

You could probably cobble to get the Metra dash kit and leave the factory screen in place in addition to the aftermarket radio.

Multimedia/Carplay/Android Auto solution has been off and on research topic for my 2015MY LR4. Nothing looks good/solid/affordable, etc etc. Finally giving in to a portable solution, aka the poor man's solution. I went with the Carpuride wide screen model. It says 2023 model, though not sure if that really means anything (maybe software updated?). Reviews are either solid, or good with some caveats. Biggest issue would be the audio solution, some made it work, some had terrible experience. No body out there reviewed compatibility with LR4s. One of the best feature is the auto launch of carplay/android auto, but a reviewer complained that Android auto failed to do so reliably. Need to see if that's widespread issue.

Anyways, device is en-route, i'll be testing it. I'll report back here what my experience is (for anyone interested). More importantly, if the device works for me, I'll need to find a mounting solution that does not ruin the leather, or reduce visibility out the front, or have a unit bouncing back and forth and most importantly, no wires dangling. Also would love hide the eye-sore of a brand name right in front (who the heck thinks that's a good idea)?

I ordered the same unit-after looking at various other install options. I was curious if you had any updates. Mine comes today.

So I've had it for about a week. It's really good in some ways, disappointing in other. I use Android. Connection to AA is solid, quick to boot, and connection time respectable. Once connected, it's standard AA affair, so really positive. Screen quality good as well.

The bad: audio Fm volume too low, can't play over BT (not sure if that's even doable), Aux sound quality lacking. Auto brightness went on fritz once, I'll see if that repeats. Screen does not have two finger touch, so no zoom in or out. Dock options meh, but if I keep the device, I have an idea for a solution. Steering wheel controls don't work, very frustrating. Also, wireless AA is battery hog, not the products fault I'm guessing. Finally, bezel bigger than competition and ugly logo upfront super annoying.
