Good morning Scottie. Different body styles as my opinion is just that, an opinion by me and should they tickle your fancy so be it and go for it.

In regards to added contributions to the LR3 & 4 forum I already have designed and drawn up plans for making the front crossover pipe out of aluminum. Machining with lathe, milling machine as well Tig welding the parts together can be done by my personal equipment in my shop. Haven't started on the rear crossover I haven't received a failed rear like the front example. This just another challenge to me like the 95 D1 purchase back in 1-2000. Took 5 years to locate a 95 with 5 spd as less than 2% sold in the USA (94, 95, yuck 96 OB2) now in 5 door. Really wanted a 87 D1 in 3 door like I saw in Toronto Canada after a joy ride from Calif. allowing me seat time flying. Too big of a hassle bring one into Calif. ended that idea. Sure they had several faults in 95 all corrected except the ABS control which was a death trap feature, remove fuse no problem.

As my Top Fuel dragster owner and friend told me, 'yup you got that right a challenge with that 95 LR purchase". He knew I wouldn't leave it alone until it was modified to my planned expectations. Valve guides OEM were crap, example upgrade. It hauls a$$ plus also corners vs up on it's lid after a demo ride years ago. ***** on that one as a passenger.

BTW i'll still proceed with this cross over piping project when I have "extra time" project number 1,383 on things to fab, repair and do list as I like challenges especially showing improvement results. Already made a custom slide hammer for removing LR4 injectors, have a HP pump "borrowed" from the aviation field for a flushing, testing spray patterns, flow volume matching injector sets project build. Already built a tester for the LP Bosch injectors years ago.

With that project I was accused of "PLAPLAGIARISM" after posting pictures of the injector cleaner a flow pattern and balance checking project resulting in 8 injectors flowing within 0.0075% (.75%). Bosch 4 hole sure beat Lucas single hole 80's design dribble injectors. I also milled out an intake extension 1 1/2" tick aluminum allowing a lot lower rpm pulling ability without hindering top end rpm's of the rev limiter at 5,900 rpm's.

HE WHO MAKES NO MISTAKES DOES NOTHING.

I still can't leave my friend stranded with is LR4 hence the aluminum crossover pipes project challenge for his LR4 but not on open forum the machining, Tig welding with finished product photos process.

Thanks Scottie you made my decision avoiding the process of photos then postings of this LR4 crossover project. All LR4 replies gone silent. .....~~=o&o>......

Name your be price for the AK crossover.

I'm in.

I’ll have one as well, just in case I buy an LR4.
You’re doing everyone a service with the alloy pipe upgrade.

Hello ladies and gentlemen, this is my first post on the forum. I’m glad it’s on such an exciting thread.

Happy motoring,

stu.

Revisiting this old topic in an effort to find out "why". My guess is that high idle on start is an electronic issue related to prevent stalling. But it can't be good for a motor to be subjected to what sounds like stress on startup. I wonder if that setting can be adjusted using the GAP II?

Revisiting this thread. My 2012 lr4 (148k miles) is revving much higher than 1500 for a few seconds (especially in the coldest of mornings, like 0 degrees f) and it freaks me out that it's really damaging the motor. It doesn't seem like there is a consensus on the problem in this thread. Anyone have an opinion?

How much above 1500 and how many seconds? On every cold start that my car has it idles at 1500 to get the oil circulated and then drops down <1k rpms. All of our trucks should do that.

My V8 on start revs initially to 2000 RPM (from the starter) and immediately drops to around 1300 rpm until another 30 seconds and slowly idles down. Maybe modesto_man could post a video?

I had the same high revs at start-up - it was definitely not normal…. I have owned that LR4 for ten years, so know what is normal. It started to rev up well over 2500 rpm immediately on startup, just for a couple seconds, then quickly back to normal idle. I tried to ignore it for a while, and it eventually led to a giant cloud of smoke out the exhaust each time I started. Big enough to be embarrassing in parking lots. Once the smoke started I figured my head gasket or something had gone, was preparing for news that I need a new engine. Turned out to be a $90 PCV. My V8 needed two of them. Cheaper than an oil change! Just do it.

Thanks all. Like @mrtp4, I know my truck well and this is not the normal slight revving that occurs during start up. I've been avoiding driving it in the cold since this started but will likely have to drive it soon. I'll take a video. In the meantime, I ordered the pcv valve replacement kit.

Any other suggestions welcome!

Hi all. I ended up just replacing the pcv valves and so far so good! It's revving normally upon cold start now. I was reluctant to buy the $25 pcv valves available on Amazon so I paid $55 each at my local land rover shop (not a dealer). Easy install.
