Hello,

On the 2013 LR4, can it accept multiple set of tires without reprograming? If not so, what is the cheapest OBD2 tool I can get to reprogram? Also I have acquired a set of new wheels from the 2022 Defender, with original TPMS. Was wondering if they are compatible with LR4? Worse case I just drive with sensor light on or will it disable some off road mode or tracking control? I appreciate any help.

Thanks,

Steven

LR4 does not need to be reprogrammed for different wheel sets - it just figures it out on its own. TMPS sensors can use different frequencies, 315MHz and 433MHz I believe, some sensors transmit on both, others just one of the frequencies. I am not aware of low pressure disabling anything - in fact when I go off-roading and air down, the low-pressure warning is there for all four wheels and I haven't noticed any impact on offroad ability.

What year is your LR4? There was a change in the TPMS frequency somewhere along the run. I think if yours is a 2012.5 or older, the Defender TPMS will not work. I may be wrong on the year. Could be 2013 or 14.

There's not really any DIY solution. It either works or it doesn't, based on the frequency of the sensor. If you want to just turn off the TPMS system entirely, you can do that with the iiD tool from Gap Diagnostic.

The 2015 LR4 is sensor specific. I tried a simple tire rotation and even after several starts and days, the LR$ did not recognize the wheels in different wheel wells.

The LR4 is remarkably picky to TMPS sensors. This is one case where you either buy genuine Land Rover parts or parts from VDO the OEM. Those are the only ones that I have had work. There's an ancient thread I posted on this topic on a Land Rover forum, but I spend a lot of time with a tire shop using aftermarket sensors, and they didn't work even though they worked fine on other vehicles when tuned to the specific frequency. Make sure you check the frequency of your original sensors since you are in the range of the changeover period between 315 and 433 MHz.
