Hi All,

The LR4 manual recommends not to charge the main battery while it is connected to Vehicle charging system. Does any one have recommendation for charging the Battery if vehicle is not driven everyday?

Thinking of using CTEK (56-353) Multi US 7002 12V charger if it is safe to charge in the LR4 while battery is connected to the vehicle.

Thanks for reading. Please advice.

I’ve had a trickle charger on mine before without any issues. Just one of the NOCO ones.

I've used a CTEK MXS 5 to keep my main battery topped up while parked, and have never had any issues. I'm guessing a number of people have done the same with no ill effects.

Been doing it for years. Even have charger permanently mounted under the hood.

For that matter, I also have a constantly attached Solar panel on the hood.

Zero issues.

Using a trickle charger will be just fine, your battery is charged and the trickle charger will just keep the battery topped off.

I suspect LR are worried about voltage spikes damaging the electronics in the vehicle. A high-current charger might be able to deliver those, but a trickle charger won’t.

Hi Srtest, there is no issue with charging your cranking battery while connected to the vehicle.
You can connect the Positive ( + ) lead of the charger to your cranking battery's Positive ( + ) terminal.
BUT the charger's Negative ( - ) lead MUST NOT be connected to the cranking battery's Negative ( - ) terminal. It must be connected to a good earth point away from the battery.
This has nothing to do with Land Rover, this is an industry safety requirement.
It is done this way as a means to avoid causing the battery to explode.
