Just got this same code today, same occurrence of events with the warning first that was then greeted with a CEL. Is it even worth going through my indi shop to have them put dye in and pressure test or should I just pull the trigger and buy the pipe and install it myself?

If you’re capable of doing the swap yourself, it’s probably worth just trying that yourself first. Part # is LR010806 and I paid $120 for it back when I did it. It took me maybe 20 minutes to do.

CEL on mine popped up once since the fix, went away on its own the next day. I'd DIY, its a very easy swap.

Think I’m going to pull the trigger and do it myself, I’ve had an issue too where when I start my car after filling up with fuel it will barely start but only after filling up. Any other time it will start just fine, it’s done this for 2 fill ups consistently. This was the first thing that came up once I looked it up. I’d say it’s safe to assume that’s the issue.

Purge valves do go bad eventually, so even if that turns out not to be your problem, it is not a complete waste to refresh that part.

Please do let us know if it works. I was corresponding with someone on another forum about a similar issue - strange behavior after fill-ups - and suspected the purge valve or the charcoal canister, or possibly a fuel filler neck issue.

Purge valve and DTML pump fixed it in my truck. I could barely get fuel in. Make sure you blow some air through the charcoal canister before you put the new pump on, too.

Sorry for the late response but I just got around to doing the job, truck is fixed, starts perfectly after fill ups and the CEL is gone.

Had similar symptoms- Check Gas Cap warning, then CEL for small leak P0442. Installed new gas cap- didn't solve it. Installed new purge valve (easy job), and was good for a week or two. Just tonight got the Check Gas Cap warning again.. tightened the cap and it went away after starting the motor again.. If CEL comes back I'll be looking at a new DTML pump.

Glad I found this thread. I've been getting the gas cap warning, followed by CEL. Cleared a couple of times, but need to address it. Gas cap arriving tomorrow, but pretty sure that won't do it. I'll follow the guidance some folks have provided here.

It pays to smoke test the truck, so you aren’t throwing money away. A smoke machine is $100 on Amazon.
