LR4 - Is there an equivalent in ride/driving experience?

I've been seeing a lot of these new Ford Broncos around. I have to admit, they catch my eye. Not sure how they drive or anything else about them. Anyone test drive/own one?
The new Ford Broncos are nice and I would've considered one but with a 3500 towing capacity it just doesn't work for me.

I hear ya jerrygmeyers, I haven't towed with the LR4 yet, but I like having the 7,700 lbs. capacity.

What I was surprised to see is the price point on the Broncos aren't insane. Don't get me wrong, they are still considerable, but modest compared to other vehicles playing in that same sandbox.

I really doubt if the new broncos are anywhere in the same ballpark as the LR4.

I agree that there isn’t anything else like the LR4, been looking around. I rode in a bronco recently and it was crap. And the tow capacity was surprisingly low, especially for a vehicle with a solid rear axle . I don’t see what’s so special about that thing except for the doors are removable which is kind of cool. It’s basically a larger more expensive Jeep wrangler…similar towing capacity. My wife now has a Velar. It’s ride is almost equivalent but it doesn’t have air ride shocks. We didn’t get that version but it’s still nice, but then I can’t do anything else with it. The LR4 V8 is the do-it-all vehicle.
My next vehicle will be a Defender 110 with air ride once they become more affordable.

not a ladder frame but you can try L322 of the similar vintage. i didn’t notice a huge disconnect between my L322 and the LR4s i have test driven during my (ongoing) search for one. nothing else (sequoia, lx570, Escalade) comes even close, so don’t waste your time. as others said, there’s a reason why we’re in this madness.

I don’t think there is a good replacement for all the aforementioned reasons. It’s (nearly) as quiet as my LX470 was, faster, better handling, might be a bit more competent off-road, is better looking, better seats, and better leather (although I now have Melville & Moon canvas on them). A bit maintenance heavy, sure, but do 5k synthetic oil changes and at least the timing chains should hold up.

that all being said, I window shop Rangers and Gladiators once in a while… but I’ll probably find a low mileage 2013 LR4 when the time comes.

I'll add my two cents in on the topic. In the SUV realm I've owned a Discovery II, LR3, Audi Q7 V8, Audi Q7 TDI, Volvo XC90 V8 to my current LR4 SC. My LR4 stands alone as the best I've driven with none of the others coming close as being a swiss army knife of great on road and off road ability. I recently test drove a 2020 Defender and to me it's more of a refined LR4. Great in some ways but as @iSurfvilano said I still like my LR4. Maybe it's the body on frame feel of the LR4. Light body roll in corners but you still feel planted below. It's a unique feeling. In the end today I would have to say the Defender is the closet thing you will find. Until we get a chance to test drive the Ineos Grenadier.

GLS is essentially the same concept with more power, a better ride, more comfort & better reliability.

Downside? Mercedes maintenance makes JLR look economical and the fuel consumption is horrid.

Source: we’re on our 3rd GLS

Who's a G Wagon fan? Maybe a nice W463 G 550. I like those, and prices becoming more attainable.
