    My Love/Hate relationship with LR

July of 2009, the Military stationed us back home in CO. Coming from TX we had a Jetta TDI for a commuter car. But knowing that CO winters can be nasty, we wanted something 4WD. The search began. I wanted something diesel, with 7 passenger capability. Those are hard to come by in the US...

5th annual Crawl 4 Christ, Moab, UT June 6-9

Check out www.crawl4christ.com So sorry I hadn't posted this earlier. I am planning to be there and have registered. Camping is at Ron's campground and free to military members. The bad news is that up until now we had the whole place reserved, but as of May 1st, Ron asked that we open...

    Looking for wheels in CO?

Seems like a great deal: http://denver.craigslist.org/pts/2566457961.html Came across them while looking for other stuff. This the same lug pattern as the LR3?

    New (to me) parts vendor

I am on the quest for brake parts and bought a set of akebono pads on amazon. While there, I searched for a LR part number for rotors and didn't come up with anything, but down the page a bit was a sponsored link that said "we don't have your item, but try this" with a link to Land Rover Parts...

    Machining Rotors?

Anyone know the spec for when rotors can no longer be turned or machined? My front pads are due to replace and there is probably a 1/16"+ lip around the edge of the rotor. Can I turn them or should I replace? I know what pads I want, so if I need to replace rotors, what are...

    Air Compressor R&R

Got my first suspension fault. Gonna have a buddy scan the car tonight to see if I can narrow it down further, but I have noticed the compressor making more and more noise. We have extended coverage with a $250 deductible, so I am assuming that if it is the air compressor, I should just let...

    Tailgate cable reel issue

On the driver side the cable is not reeling back in especially when cold and the cable gets wrapped around the latch post. The door still shuts, but the cable has a kink in it now. Anyone pulled any panels off back there and gave this mechanism some grease or replaced it? Thanks! J.D.

    (2) 255/55r19 Bridgestone Dueler H/L Alenza

I have two of these tires that were on our LR3 when we bought it. They don't have a lot of life left, but would make for great cheap spares. I am estimating that have between 5&6/32" tread. I also have another identical tire, but it has been plugged due to a screw I picked up somewhere. It...

    255/55 R19 for street/off-road

I know this topic has been beat to death, but it seems the threads I came across were for either 18" tires or for someone looking for mainly road manners. While road manners are very important, I also want them to perform well off-road. And living in CO, I need some snow/ice performance as...

    Replaced my rear brake pads

Since the factory service agreement has expired, it's my turn to take over the maintenance responsibilities. I am happy to do so as it allows me to get more familiar with my rig. Last night I changed the oil, new air filter, and rear brakes. It all went pretty smoothly and took me just over...

Where do you get your oil, air filter, brake fluid, etc? Thanks! J.D.

    Tire tread differences

What, if any, are the issues with running a full size spare with a brand new tire while the other side has a tire that's probably got 30% tread on it? I can't see that being any different than running the stock spare. I assume the differential is open under normal driving conditions and that...

    Regular Service - what's involved?

Besides changing the oil and checking coolant, brake, fluids, what are the normal service items for the V8? I am going to start doing my own since I am over 45k and want to make sure I do it all. Will be ordering filters and what not soon. What are good sources for that stuff? If there's a...

    Aftermaket Air Filters

Anyone running a drop-in aftermarket air filter? I don't even know what the stock one looks like, but I'd like to see if the likes of the oil-less AEM has a filter for our appilcation. I won't put in an oiled filter. Any other options? Thanks! J.D.

Tire situation - what would you do?

Had a blast doing some wheeling over the weekend, but it's going to cost me one way or another! I tore the tread off one tire (Dueler H/L) so I'm at a cross-roads. I see that it's popular to get some 18" wheels for more tire selection. I am not opposed to that, but I hate to just waste the...

    Colorado's Highest Pass

My wife, my son, and I hooked up with our local Land Rover dealer for a trail ride. We met half the group at the dealer and headed west on Hwy 24. When we reached Hartsel, we headed NW on hwy 9 to Fairplay and continued North on Hwy 9 to the Mosquito Pass Trailhead where we met the rest of...

CO guys, how up to date is your Nav?

I am considering updating ours and it seems very out of date, but I have not pulled the DVD out to see. I am just wondering if it's worth it?? Found a good deal, just trying to figure out if I want take advantage of it. I don't use the 1791 code, so won't miss that any. J.D.

    Got the LR3 offroad

On Saturday, we decided to take my parents for a ride around the area. First we explored Garden of the God's, which is a bunch of rock formations that are supposedly millions of years old. We explored via the pavement since my wife is about two weeks from her due date, we didn't push it...

    Child safety seat locations?

My wife is due in a few weeks so we installed our car seat last night. MUCH to our dismay, with the car seat installed behind the drivers seat, the driver seat had to be so far forward that is was uncomfortable for even my 5'-6" tall wife and I've got another 6" on her. This was quite...

$2 fix for Whistling Yakima Rack

Early this year, I installed yakima ski rack on our LR3 for a ski trip. The thing whistled like a stuck pig and was quite annoying, but since I had the whole rack on, I figured it was the nature of the beast. However, after I removed the ski rack and just left the landing pads, the whistle was...
