Colored markings on new tires explained

We seldom go to where the snow is, but have a 2013 with the Conti's and they are awesome. Pretty quiet on the freeways, very capable in the wet and snow and have been as good as it gets for our 13 LR4. I fully agree winter tires for severe snow conditions might be best, but for all around...

It’s the new Land Rover Defender!

Looks more like an LR4! Yippee if it comes here...we're in line!!

Why do american trucks get much better mpg that the lr4?

It's not the V6 that is the issue. Just look at the weight and the poor aerodynamics of the LR4. We have a 2013 LR4 that gets about 12 in the city and as I recall never saw the high side of 19 anywhere on the road. That said I have am Jaguar XF-S with the 380 HP supercharged V6 and it has seen...

2012 LR4 GPS showing me 150 miles away....

TMC is your traffic info and it is sent by FM signal to your radio. Areas that are not in urban signal reception may not received TMC at all. We have LR4's and a Jaguar and the traffic info is good until you get into BFE and then nothing.

Land Rovers Suck!! Hear me out!

Strangely enough, the composite (plastic) intake manifolds on Fords 4.6 modular engines had massive problems in the early 2000's. I had one that the manifold started spewing coolant on a hot day (104 degrees) and Ford had a TSB on it that covered it to 100K miles. I think this using composites...

    Full Size Spare

I was incorrect. Both have the aluminum wheels. It is mounted upside down and was pretty filthy from road grime, so it looked like a steel wheel at first look.

    Full Size Spare

It appears the HSE was special ordered with a full size spare but it is steel and not a mag rim. I was surprised the first time I dropped it to check the pressure. The LUX has the locker and heavy duty option and came with a full size mag rim.

    Full Size Spare

We have full size spares on both LR4's, one with a steel wheel and one with mag rims. Dealers sometimes don't know a rim from a hole in the ground. God forbid they use the internet to see what it is you need.

    6 Months with LR4 - my observations

I believe I am very fortunate as my dealer has several teams that compete off-road and even has specially set up LR's for competition. They seem to understand what off-roading is all about. Also, an oil change here is about $160 and they do the complimentary check of all systems. The only time I...

New to me Discovery First Edition

Our new Jaguar has the auto dimming technology on the LED headlights and it works great. We live in a rural area with many winding and sharp curved roads. No matter how dark the road, they light up the area like daylight. It does not switch one headlight to low but both at the same time. I...

Disco 5 hit with the ugly stick

We actually moved a whole house sans the heavy bedroom furniture in the LR4. Boxes, ironing board, lamps, garage shelves, toold, housewares and whatever else would fit. I have to admit my spouse is so great at fitting things in; we moved all the stuff over a narrow country road and the LR4...

Disco 5 hit with the ugly stick

We seem to be a group without a home, like people without a country. Our loyalist attitudes have us squarely behind the LR3-LR4 and yet the people who are pushing the Disco seem to think we need to get on board with ugliness. Sadly, looking at the front of the new Range Rovers, there is a lack...

Disco 5 hit with the ugly stick

Of course here in California so many brand new RR's are driven by soccer moms whose only off-road experience is running over curbs while looking at their phone. Never ceases to amaze me that with a 130K vehicle that has every hands free gimmick available they still have to hold their phone to...

Disco 5 hit with the ugly stick

That has been my take all along. If I wanted a Ford Explorer for 35K I would get one and not a look-alike Disco for 75K. JLR et al is going the BMW route, trying to fit a seat to every ass so no matter your spending level you can move into a Jaguar or Land Rover. Who wants to spend 80-90K on a...

Disco 5 hit with the ugly stick

Yes. In fact the dealer in Carlsbad, CA stated the same. We told him we were not interested in selling the LR4. They are fast sellers especially in pristine condition.

Disco 5 hit with the ugly stick

Having owned several LR4's (one still driven daily) my personal opinion is that LR is attempting to homogenize their offerings into vehicles that look alike across the entire line, one simply being larger than the next. (We also have a 2016 Jaguar XF S and they did that with the XE as well) Not...

    WeatherTech vs ? floor liners

We use the Lloyds Rubbertite mats for both the floor mats and the cargo mat. Works very well, have gone through almost 5 years since installation and they clean up like new. They do not have raised edges but dimples that catch fluids and dirt. The 2013 LR4 is Nara Bronze with an Arabica and...

My LR4 next to a new Discovery...

Thanks for the pics. Our 2013 LR4 is also Nara Bronze and we sure love it. Not only is it more cargo capable than the new Disco, but it has the last of the V8 power plants and that is a huge plus. It stands out on the road and makes the latest "replacement" look, as you noted, generic. Looks...

    LR4 Favorite Year?

The LR4 V8 also has dual intakes, so that sort of negates the intake air flow prior to a blower. I also have the 380HP Supercharged V6 Jaguar XF-S and find it to be outstanding in acceleration and performance. Oh but if JLR could get the gas mileage anywhere near the 29.8 I get on the highway...

    LR4 Favorite Year?

We have two 2013's and in my opinion it is the best year for the LR4. The fuel economy, as all have stated, is not good but the torque and power delivery is solid and immediately available. Excellent for off-roading and towing and a great performer on the highway as well. We have not had any...

HD Package or not HD Package, how to know for sure using TOPIx

One simple way on the LR4 is to look and see if you have a full size spare on an alloy wheel. In 2013 at least, that was only included on the versions with the HD package, including the locker diff.

    NAV8 vs SCV6 Comparison

We have had two and still own one 2013 LR4 HSE, one sold was the HSE LUX and loved them both. Difference as far as rough road capability was in that the LUX had the HD package with the locker rear, tow pack and the full size spare. I was so glad to have the aluminum V8 as it has excellent low...

    2013 Trade-Ins

The value of 2013 LR4's has been amazing, at least here in Southern California. Dealers, yes dealers, are willing to post pricing as high as 57K for 2013 LR4 HSE LUX packages with very low mileage (5K and less). I lament I let mine go for a bit over 52K in October, but find that even 6 months...
