03 Discovery II key fob ?

I purchased a second key fob from ebay for my 03 Disco II and was told by my local dealer that they had to hook it up to a computer to sink it to my truck. $60 total for the work! I just wanted to make sure there was no other way, some of my older vehicles i just had to have both the new and old key fob in the car with the ignition turned on and hold the buttons down for 5 seconds to sink.

Unless I am mistaken you have to go either to the dealer or someone with Testbook/autologic computer (i.e. Land Rover repair shop)

I think I was quoted about $300 for a new key with the programming. It has been more than a year and a half and I still haven't big. But I secretly dread the day I lose my only key ...
