2001 Disco - key broke in ignition

New to forum: The key broke off in the ignition in my 2001 Disco. Of course it’s the only key. With a pair of short pliers (channel lock), was able to start it, but couldn’t remove the key. Battery is now dead.

Saw on old 2004 thread that an Ilco key blank may work. Part X239 RV4. About to see if that would still work. Dealer in town said new key would be well over $300...and I’d have to schedule an appointment. Next week. Seriously?

Any ideas or suggestions?

Welcome to the forum. Sorry for not responding sooner, I have been busy with my day job.

I would recommend calling your local Locksmith, they always know who has and cuts keys for this type of issues and may even be able to remove the old key.
