Land Rover's Discovery is getting supercharged V6 power, for the 2014 model year. The engine will replace the naturally aspirated 5.0-litre V8 in some markets.... (without the weight reduction apparently???)

Also gets the new RR style headlight surrounds with a strip of light instead of the leds.... meh

2013 FTW!!! proud V8 owner here. So glad I pulled the trigger this year.

They do say they will get the power up to 375bhp and 332lb ft. which is close to current 5.0-litre V8's 370bhp and 375lb ft, but I wonder how it will feel. NA power is different than Forced Induction power for sure.

The torque at 1500rpm surely can't feel like the 5.0 V8.

On the plus side, most forced-induction engines push their torque at lower rpms than do normally-aspirated engines so it might not feel much different in real world application.

I would much rather Land Rover bit the bullet and federalized the V6 TD engine, sacrificing some total horsepower for the grunt and mileage of the diesel. And, if I'm wishing for the impossible, let's throw the weight savings from body structure changes in as well and really hit a home run.

They surely wont look anything like the 13 disco once they do the weight reduction right? They are going to take the opportunity to evouqize it and make it look funny like a new RR or something...

Ugh. I'm getting a 2013 to replace my 2011 before they make the changes.

I'd they're revising the head lamps, grill, and wing mirrors you would think they would keep the model for 2 years minimum. Maybe the reports of a new Discovery 5 in 2015 were premature and it will be 2016 instead. They need to get the weight down at some point.

However, I'll take torque at 1000 RPMs over Power at 3500RPMs any day

I'll take the facts stated in that "spy shot" article with a pinch of salt. To start, the hp/torque numbers of both V8 and V6 engines are wrong.

True, I saw from another forum that the V8 produces 375 horsepower and 375 pound-feet of torque, the supercharged V6 gets 340 hp and 332 lb-ft

It sounds like there are two versions of the Jaguar V6 supercharged, a 340HP and a 380HP configuration:

"Jaguar has announced two new forced induction petrol engines for the 2013 model year; one of which is confirmed for the new F-Type sports car.
First, the 3.0-liter V6 supercharged engine will be available in two levels of power output: 380HP (279kW / 375bhp) with 460Nm (339lb-ft) and 340HP (250kW / 335bhp) with 450Nm (332lb-ft). In the more powerful version, specific output is 127HP per liter - the highest of any Jaguar engine. "
