2016 LR4 Original Owner. 75k. Thinking about selling, but not sure of alternative rides that can do everything this does.

I'm thinking about selling. Not too many issues. I just had a bank 2 error for my cat, but it was just a leak in my exhaust. I love this truck. I regularly tow 6k with it, overland, and 4x in Moab and Ouray. Its amazing in all conditions. Looks as good as the day I purchased it. NO back fatigue after long hard drives, I get 17mpg with my 18" Nitto Grapplers and my roof rack loaded. Regularly haul Family of 4 and a giant do with a 5k trailer in tow. Its been really great. Not really a typical LR story.

This is about the time when these cars start to **** the bed sometime in the next 25k from what I understand. The recent engine light kind of started me thinking.. maybe its time to start looking around.

Other than another LR there are just so few options for doing these activities. The Bronco can't tow for ****. Toyota..I'd have to find a used Land Cruiser. However, I get back aches in every Toyota I have owned in the past. I sold my Tundra after a year because it sucked on the road very bouncy on pavement seams. Very uncomfortable truck, not comfortable and it also really didn't work well for the entire family once they got bigger than the extended cab could handle.

I'm considering a Grenadier or another newer Defender. What other non-land yachts are there that can do what my LR4 does? I want a 4x4 not AWD. I use these how they are meant to be used. Overlanding, adventuring, hauling. True off-road adventuring 3x per year. Getting another LR kind of makes me feel like i'm tempting fate with reliability. For some reason I've been lucky with mine.
I'd hate to part with it and then be miserable with something else. I do not enjoy self hate for poor decision making.

Give me some options or experiences

GX550 might fit the bill, I believe it has a bit of a "step" in the cargo area when the seats are folded, however.

Cooling system, sc coupler, all fluids and filters and suspension refresh are on the horizon. If you are paying to have service done, it might be better to buy new. Unless you are comfortable paying what would surpass trade in on maintenance above. Personally id pay $5-7k and be good to go for another 75k. Reevaluate in 8 years.

I want to keep my 2013 LR4 HSE LUX HD (currently 99k miles) as long as I can, but because I am a car nerd I also still look at other cars. My current replace list, if I had to, is.

1. Defender 130. Not my favorite, but the 110 isn't long enough to sleep in the back like my LR4. I almost think I would just keep a 110 as a street rig.. they look so sweet just driving around, especially blacked out.
2. Lexus GX550. I think they have a lot of L319 DNA in them, but they also lack a lot practicality. I don't think they are long enough for me to sleep in the back, but i haven't verified that yet. The tailgates on all these are **** compared to an LR4.
3. INEOS Grenadier. Meh... seen a few in person. They seem less capable offroad than an LR4. They have good character unlike the toyota, but they are small inside also. Nothing quite has the dimensions or seating position/windows as an LR4.
4. and last, I just have "a truck" as my option. Go with some kinda of overland camper setup on the back. I don't really want a truck, i like SUVs... and campers are expensive, heavy and awkward, but really nice to live out of.

Nothing quite checks the boxes the same though, its a real struggle.

Grenadier, Defender, and Rivian R1T/S if you want to try something electric.

I’m not a Toyota/Lexus fan. Jeeps aren’t refined, Bronco can’t tow like you said…

I kept my LR4 but my R1T is my favorite vehicle right now. It’s incredibly capable off road, comfortable, and has a ton of tech which I enjoy. Towing however, is a lost cause if you need to tow more than 150 miles.

My brothers rivian spent three weeks at dealer for a flat tire. Thats after a tow from outside Philadelphia ( their home) to Baltimore. Which is the closest service center for him. Rivian paid the tow there....he had to cover return trip. Not impressed.

I committed myself to keeping my 2013 and investing in its upkeep whatever that might entail. It doesn’t get very rough usage these days so it’s mostly an around town and long road trip vehicle. I get all scheduled maintenance done by a trusted indy shop and do 5K oil changes myself. Currently at 127K and no issues. When I *was* considering a change I was leaning Range Rover, Defender, and also gave the Grenadier a good long look. (FWIW for those who thought the LR3’s center stack had an avionics feel to it, the Grenadier’s switch setup is next level and even extends into the headliner. I also liked other aspects of its design language and capabilities but the service network is still a challenge and that’s coming from someone who is “only” a couple of hours from their Philly service location.)

My use case is different from yours as I only occasionally do any off-roading and then it’s fairly tame. But reliability has been excellent. I have not hesitated to take this on annual winter trips to SW FL from MD and back for the past few years. A few years ago we ran into a freak snowstorm that shut down I-95. While other vehicles were wallowing around in the snowdrifts I calmly backed up about 1/4 mile to an exit and went on our merry way. It was straight out of a Land Rover commercial.

My bottom line is that I know I would have seller’s remorse so I’m sticking with it until the bitter end. Never been more attached to a vehicle than I am to this one. Good luck!

I actually do like the idea of a rivian R1S, but my LR4 is basically a dedicated adventure travel vehicle and has been for the last 8+ years. I don't daily it much if ever. The big issue with Rivian is just the charging infrastructure and range. Even most gas vehicles will struggle to have the range of my LR4 because I have about 50 gallons of fuel without any jerry cans. 700+ miles of range. I added the Long Range America 28 gallon aux fuel tank and it is basically my favorite mod at this point.
