So..... I'm just curious. Anyone on here running 33's?

I came across a thread on the Disco 3 UK forum with a guy running 33x12.50R18 Nitto Mud Grapplers on an LR3, and now I'm intrigued. It won't let me attach a link to the thread, but it's easy to find with a quick Google search. I have attached a couple of photos from the thread.

It seems like quite a bit of modding was done to accommodate them, but I'm wondering if anyone with an LR4 has attempted this. If I was able to do a 33" tire, I would probably lean toward the Toyo Open Country Mud Terrains, but the tread pattern of the Nitto Mud Grapps is very interesting. Right now I'm running 265/65R18 BFG All Terrains, which come out to a diameter just under 32".

Scott Brady (Overland Journal) is documenting an LR4 project he is slowly outfitting, and is currently running it on 33" All Terrain tires. One I don't care so much about is that he is using fairly chunky wheel spacers to allow a set of 18" OEM rims from an LR3 to clear the calipers of his LR4. I'd rather mount Compomotive wheels that clear the calipers and leave the spacers out of the equation myself, but they make the conversion to 18" relatively inexpensive of course. Here's a photo of the LR4 project:

The whole thread is interesting, but 33" tires are discussed starting here: http://www.expeditionportal.com/for...l-Project-Land-Rover-Discovery-4-(LR4)/page30

The Compomotive wheels do have a slightly larger offset, but its not sticking way the hell out like the spacers, which I can't imagine is a good idea.

From what I have read:
larger than 31" wont fit in the spare wheel well (without deflating at least)
larger than 31.5" will have a slight rub at full lock
larger than 32" requires the outer edge of the front lower internal lip of the plastic wheel-well liner needs to be cut back 1” to 2” to prevent the front tyre from rubbing, and on the rear, you take the wheel well liner out and cut it approximately in half and refit the rear half. Then you bend the metal seam protruding into the well back so that it is out of the way. etc.

Looks damn good though. Im still not sure if I want to go the easy route and stay with P265/60R18 ~30.5" or just go bigger.

Who all has experience with this?

I'm honestly not sure what the offset is on my 18" Fuel Boost wheels and how it would affect a larger tire option. The dealership did the fitting and ordering of my wheels and tires, so I wasn't too involved with all the specs. Is a larger offset better or worse? I love my BFG All Terrains so far, but I would definitely consider a mud terrain instead (or in the future). If I went this route, 33's would definitely be ideal. So many options too.

Here's a photo of some 285/65R18 Nitto Trail Grapplers on a Lexus LX470. I'm pretty sure that comes out to 32.6".... that might be a nice option as well.

EDIT: According to the Johnson Rods website, I should be able to clear a 285/65R18. Hmmmm.....

And they fit without mods to brakes or the addition of spacers and centering rings? I looked all over fueloffroad.com and can't even find any 18" Boost wheels with a bolt pattern to match Land Rover's 5 x 120.

These were actually custom-drilled to fit

Aaah... Got all excited for a second, thought I had discovered the only other 18" wheel on the planet that would fit a US-spec LR4 without modifications. Nice custom work, though.

That's what I thought as well when I first started chatting with Brandon. ;-)
