Hello all, I am attempting in this post to collect all the information I’ve seen in several other threads on how to update the Infotainment system on an older 2010-2011 Discovery 4 / LR4 to Apple CarPlay. I am located in the United States (US). But I also have a lot of questions for anyone that has installed any of these.

It seems like my model of the LR4 has the older Integrated Audio Module (IAM) LR040663. Which runs the MOST 2.0 network versus the MOST 2.1 network on the 2012 and newer models.

My 2011 LR4 HSE has factory Nav and Backup camera, so in the list below I am going to keep the existing touchscreen and not delve into the “10.4inch tablet replacement screen” options.

The options are:
1) Naviplus (AU) – $681.30 (AU$1000)
https://www.naviplus.com.au/online-...d-Auto-&-Apple-CarPlay-Package-Kit-p100678231

2) NavTool (US?) - $599.99
https://www.navtool.com/land-rover-lr4-2010-2011-apple-carplay.aspx

3) NAVIKS (US) - $825
https://naviks.com/i-24077786-2010-...ol-must-send-screen.html?ref=category:1149762

4) Unique Auto - $616.92 (535.99 pounds)
https://unique-ad.co.uk/product/wir...t-l320-freelander-2-discovery-dis4-2011-2015/

5) 4x4 Shop CA (CA) - $900
https://4x4shop.ca/product/2009-201...roid-gps-wifi-bt-a2dp-usb-multimedia/#buy-now

Questions:
1.1) NaviPlus seems to have the most forum mentions; however, the return policy is abysmal, and several forum comments talk about having to solder wires for it to power down correctly. Can anyone who has installed this recently comment on if the soldering is still required, or has NaviPlus fixed this?

1.2) Also, here is great post by TahoeDog on installing a NaviPlus in his LR4:
https://www.landroverworld.org/threads/2011-lr4-apple-carplay-upgrade.43568/post-233244

2.1) Does the NavTool also require the 1-BOX Android Wireless Smartphone Mirroring Kit for an additional $143.99? https://www.navtool.com/1-box-android-miracast-smartphone-mirroring-kit.aspx The website is unclear if it’s “required” it is just listed as an “accessory.”

3.1) NAVIKS description says “Must send screen” but there is no further detail on the website. Do you have to remove the screen from the LR4 and send it in to them?

4.1) Unique Autolists as compatible for Discovery 4 2011-2015. We know the Infotainment system changed in 2012, so I doubt this is correct.

5.1) 4x4 Shop says “not compatible” with the ‘B’ version of the infotainment system.

For all 5 systems, do you have to run a wire all the way to the Aux input in the center console for the 2011 LR4, for sound to work?

Any feedback from those of you who have installed these aftermarket systems is greatly appreciated, thanks!

Hi, there! I’ve been trying to do this for years. My husband bought me one of these units three years ago from a seller in the US who had it made in China and unfortunately it did not fit my vehicle, a 2016 LR4 Landmark. It was also hard to return even though seller has guaranteed the model would fit my car (it didn’t).
So I am very excited to finally see some people posting what seems to be good results (?). The Landmark seems to have a different screen size and specs. Price is not a huge issue as I’m really tired of the terrible interface.
In another note, my satellite radio signal is terrible. I’ve read in other threads that this is due to either a disturbance caused by the rooftop rack attachment or a faulty factory antenna connection. In any case, do you ( or anyone else) have had this issue? Can it be corrected? If I upgrade the interface, would this also resolve the connectivity issue with the antenna (I don’t see how)?

your final option is to get one of the units direct from china. this is the one I have in my '13:

1.1- the power down issue is with all units. its the way the factory wiring just is. it's a bit of a bummer but really only an issue if you are opening and closing the doors constantly for a long period of time (to boot and shut down the car's ECUs). the unit doesn't fully power down until the car signals everything to power down.. I think its 2 or 3 minutes.

I really can't comment on the rest of your questions because they're specific to other units, but I did hard wire mine into the rear aux port. I just popped it out of the console and plugged it in under the center console cubby.

there's no visible hole unless you flip up the cover, and it's barely visible anyway so nbd.

This has probably been the definitive thread on putting a modern head unit with Carplay into an LR4:

Thank you! I’d be curious if you had any more photos of the tear down and install?

@mm3846 thank you!!!

I just replaced the right cigarette port with a usb charger, so a precursor to a full tear down.

The third photo you attached, for the "factory aux ports in the console," where exactly is that? I cannot tell from the photo. By console, do we mean arm-rest?

Also, what year is your LR4? I have a 2011. I heard units compatible with the 2012-2014 do not work on a 2011.

Yea, you're going to need a different one. The 10-12 audio system is different. IIRC the aux port is in the glove box, so thats easier to wire.

Hi I ended up going with the ID-Core system, it works pretty good. Installation wasn’t hard. For the 2010-2011 its the Denison radio , you have to open it up and change 3 ribbon cables. After that everting else is plug and play, it works good and you retain the factory system ad 4x4 screen. The hardest part for me was removing the two bid side trim pieces. I get in the car and the maps from the phone displays right away.
Matt at Unique auto developments was great answering questions.

@DugLR4 thanks for the reply and photos! Looks great!

So you went with #4 from my original post?

Are you in the US or UK?

What year is your LR4?

Can you expand on the “change 3 ribbons” part? Did the three replacement ribbons come with the ID-Core system? Were they not plug-and-play like most of the system ‘pigtail y-cables’?
