Okay, so I've resigned myself to the fact that I need a new battery.

I have a few questions, and if you have answers and would be so kind as to post them, I'd appreciate it!

1. Is there a particular kind of battery that the LR3 requires?
2. Is it a pretty straight forward drop-in procedure?
3. I have to take the car in for the P045 recall...I might ask the dealer to change the battery since they'll have the old one disconnected anyway. Has anyone done this and if so, what did they charge? It probably isn't worth the labor, but if it saves me the trouble, then I might do that.

Thanks.

okay sounds like any other battery install. Anyone know if there are any special requirements in terms of what battery to purchase?

I don't think Optima makes a compatible battery, unfortunately. I was in your same boat last year (I own a RRS) and after much looking I got an Interstate model MTP-H8, perfect fit down to the little condensation drain hose... It used to cost $150 or so last year, I got it from a local Firestone tire dealer. Specs here: http://www.interstatebatteries.com/...Nu=Part+Number&Ns=product+Type|0||Rank|1&js=1

You may be right, I checked the battery finder on Optima s site, They stop at 2002 for LR. Size Issue?

RE: Optima. Looked on Optima's site. Batteries for LR, only up to MY 2002. Too bad, great batteries. Size Issue?

Surprisingly, they replaced mine for free as well. They thought it might fix a HDC fault that kept coming up (it did).
It's always worth a shot to ask em.

Definitely have the dealer take care of it FOC if your car is still under factory warranty, since the battery is included in the coverage. If it isn't, you should probably steer clear as mine wanted more than double what I paid for a new one. The original battery on my RRS bought the farm after just over 2 years, but unfortunately I had 62K miles on the odometer.
