hello all... had a fellow come to me (owning a 2001 D2) looking for a repair for his lack of compression on number seven cylinder. He hasn't opened the motor up yet.... but may need a head repair if a valve/ valves is non-functional.

Would a D1 head fit his motor? I have one on hand, free for the asking. IF it fits! Will be glad for any reply.... rob

the 2001 is the 4.0 engine, the D1, depending on year could be a 3.5 or 4.0 either way I sadly am not positive if you can make the swap. I know a lot was changed between the two models, but not sure on if the heads are the same or not.

a head from a '98 D1...

hi Joey! the donor motor is a '98 4.0 litre.... so that part is the same. Fellow who spoke with me is considering a complete engine change, which seems unwarranted to my mind.... but shall encourage him to open up his motor, and compare the two heads (D2 vs. D1). If they measure up identically.... and he's prepared to have the D1 head planed, he may have his fix!

Glad to hear it... also as I am sure you know the Rover engines are sleeved, so keep in mind the sleeve may have slipped (liner) this can happen if it has been overheated.
