Hello all,

I use my diesel truck as a daily commuter and occasional weekend hauler. Recently, a friend suggested installing an egr bypass kit to cut down on maintenance issues related to clogged EGR valves.

I’m curious if this actually reduces long-term repair costs or just shifts the problem elsewhere. Did anyone notice smoother acceleration or improved MPG after installation?

Also, were there any unexpected side effects like increased exhaust smell or check engine lights?

I want honest user experiences before making a change that could affect reliability and warranty coverage.

EGR bypass can help with the clogging, but on a pure daily driver I’d still watch for other common buildup spots. I threw the EngineGo 6.7 Powerstroke CCV Delete Kit on mine a while back and it cut down on the oily residue that was making everything worse. Acceleration felt a little sharper and I haven’t had any weird lights or smell issues so far.

I’d be careful with a bypass if the truck is still under warranty. You might avoid some EGR-related maintenance, but you’re also changing a system the truck was calibrated around, so I wouldn’t expect a guaranteed MPG or drivability improvement. If the EGR is actually giving you trouble, I’d diagnose the specific failure first rather than bypassing it just as preventative maintenance.
