Do durable side wall tires exist for the LR4?

Been off-roading a lot exploring through the mountains looking for places to camp and enjoying time off. Today the OsmAnd app took me on a wild goose chase and it seemed like I was on another ATV trail that was pretty fun, but when I got back to camp I noticed a bulge in the left rear. I've never had this bulge before so I'm curious what everyone thinks?

When in technical sections, the speedo doesn't even register so I'm not driving fast by any means, except through water crossings. I did about 3-4 MPH in case there was mud. I didn't air down either, just kinda went for it until I realized that the app was taking me across mountain ranges.

One guy rolled his ATV trying to back down and he couldn't right it so I helped him out and picked it up for him. Then there was a case where I pulled off on a cliff shoulder and there was about 1.5" of clearance to my paint for 6 ATV's that passed. Luckily they all had communication. The leader said there was another pack coming so I waited at a pull out for a set of 4 ATV's lagging behind to come up because there was no turn-outs all the way down one of the mountains

The pic below is where all 4 wheels lost traction. I was surprised the approach angle was compatible because its super steep. The rig before me had BFG KO2's and it didn't make it up either.

I have more shots of technical sections the LR4 wouldn't make it over, but landroverworld is not upload them. So far the biggest problems have been ground clearance and tire strength. I was trying to cut over a mountain to get off the trail and onto a forest road that pushed my limits while alone. I almost crested but came up upon a spot I was pretty darn sure I'd be setting the frame on dirt and unloading all 4 wheels where someone else got stuck and had the same wheel base length and a little more clearance.

Then there is the tire problem where I'm not sure what to do about it. There is the BFG Trail Terrain that is attractive and fits the factory rims, but there isn't any data that says the BFG has stronger side walls than what I already have. There is plenty of contact patch remaining, probably a good 20k miles. I might just use the spare to replace the bulged tire, but I love taking the LR4 out in the country like this even on ATV trails and think I could easily get a blow-out. Does anyone have suggestions on how to keep off-roading without damaging tires? Would airing down these tires (or any tires) help at all?

No airing down will make it worse. You are asking for serious trouble poking around in the bush on those continental street tires. If you insist on playing captain backroad alone get some decent tires. There is a reason there is endless threads on fitting 18" tires to the LR4. For 19" in stock size the Toyo open country a/t 3 is your best bet.

The Toyos are great tires. But there are a few good choices for the on road/off road category.

Though I concur, I wouldn't run those tires even in a meadow.

Some choose the LT path. I find the ride far too hard.
What do you suggest as a non-LT tire ? I went to Cooper AT3 LT in 18s and while they're beefy, I don't love the ride.

Nowadays, there are a ton more options than 3+ years ago for 19s. I'd suggest moving at least to 31s with little to no modifications for more sidewall while off roading. Toyo Open Country AT3, Falken Wildpeak AT Trail (more highway friendly), AT3W (more agressive) or AT4W (superseeds AT3W).

Also while off roading, I'd suggest airing down to Front: 25 psi and Rear: 30 psi to start with and then adjusting it to your needs. Airing down will allow your tires to contour the road, gravel, rocks, or anything to overcome obstacles. It'll absorb most impacts and reduce tire punctures, while providing a smoother ride.

I have the Toyo Open Country AT3 and have been happy with them. For sure better than the Nokian 4-season street tires I had before. Is there a chance those tires are the original ones? My spare had the original tire, so when I switched to the AT3 I got a set of 5 tires. I got the 255/60R19, which are slightly taller sidewall (I think it works out to 31.5"), no trouble, would recommend.

Falken AT3W and AT4W do not come in a 19 as far as I can tell (neither Discount Tire nor Tire Rack carry them in 19s). GoodYear have one in the OEM 19" size. I went with the Toyo because I could go from the stock 55 to a 60 profile.

Summer time, I use the pirelli scorpion all terrain plus.
In the event of air suspension failure, I can still drive with the 255/55 19s.

Many talk about the need to upsize.

I go into a lot of crazy places…. Bogs where mud and water are past the axles. Climbing wet granite. Very loose shale. And the beach. Never needed the winch. Never wished I upsized the tires.
