Door lock actuator

My passenger door lock stopped locking. You could open from exterior but it would set off the alarm. The actuator sounded like it was working but I remembered the rear hatch actuator still made the noise when it was failing. Anyway I ordered a new actuator and lock latch to actuator cable and installed it. What is of note is that the white plastic bit on the old cable is broken. It was in my head that this served only to hold the cable against the door so that the metal head would not pop out. However, when I installed the new bit I did not pop it back into the harness on the door properly and after reassembling the door the problem was still there. I disassembled it and popped the plastic piece back into the harness and that solved the problem.

So was it actually the actuator that needed replacing or just the the "white plastic bit"? The rear drivers side on my LR4 is not working. I was going to just order the actuator and repair but maybe I should pull it apart and inspect first. Any tips or tricks to removing the interior door panel? Thanks for posting

Well I am saying that it was the plastic cable that needed it for sure but it is hard to diagnose without term wrong it apart. Given the failure rate of these parts I went ahead and did it all. You have to take apart the entire door to get that one cable off of the actuator. And at that point you might as well replace the actuator. The door panel has screws at the bottom and in the door handle area.

I have the same issue, but with the drivers door. I haven’t watched the powerfuluk video yet, but does the window need removal as well to get to the actuator?

Yes. To make it easiest. Not a big deal. But…. Don’t break the little plastic ring tab off of the door handle cable. I have done it accidentally twice while working on the door and had to replace the whole cable. PITA

So I actually broke the plastic piece in your first photo on the post... was the door cable hard to replace? I literally had my door open to look at the speakers/find a rattle...

My door continues to function properly but I'd like to replace it.

Cable is cheap and not hard to replace. Have to take that window out though to get the window motor out to reach where there cable is attached to the actuator. Do not have to take off door handle or actuator though.
