Just a friendly reminder to all the V8 LR3 owners to change the crappy plastic coolant bleeder tee on the top of the engine. It’s a ticking time bomb and this is the second one that’s failed on me.
The first one, which I assumed was the original, broke at 86k just after I bought the truck. I’m now on 140k so the second one lasted 60k or six years. Fortunately I was only two minutes from home this time and only lost a liter of coolant, rather than in the middle of soda lake like last time, which was a bit annoying.
Found a nice hard anodized aluminum 5/16 barb to 1/8 NPT tee fitting on eBay for $10 and another $4 for the plug. Cheaper than the genuine part and should last forever. Do it. Do it now!
