Is it more likely that the lamp itself failed, or something in the system, like the ballast?

Are HID's (all aspects of it) covered under warranty, or will I get an obnoxious bill for something I could have troubleshooted/replaced myself?

Just want to know if I should bring it in or not?

I have a 2013 under warranty until late 2017.

Well, the easiest way for you to find out would be swapping left and right bulbs around, then you'd know for sure if it's a bad bulb or something else not working on that side... But if your factory warranty is still valid, it should cover both the xenon bulb (which may be considered a wear part if it wasn't so darn expensive...), ballast, and wiring, so you should probably let the dealer figure it out.
