Here are the specifications for the stock 18" and 19" wheels that fit the Land Rover LR3/Discovery III. This information has been compiled from reports posted on this forum, and others. It does not include the 17" wheel option for base spec models.

Wheel specifications:
- Pattern: 5 lug
- Pitch Circle Diameter: 120mm
- Offset is 53P (approximately 165mm or 6.5" +/-)

Tire Options:

Generally, you are limited to just under 32" dia tires for the LR3. People have reported minor rubbing with 32" tires, and slight rubbing with 31.5" tires.

General size comparison numbers:
- Tire size calculator: http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html
265x60x18 = 30.5"
275x60x18 = 31"
285x60x18 = 31.46"
275x65x18 = 32 (probably too big)

Tire options - 18" rims

  • Nitto Terra Grappler 285/60/R18 (31.38" x 11.54")
  • Bridgestone Dueler Revo AT's - P265/70R18 People report rubbing with these (slightly larger than 32" dia.) Also available at: 275/65TR18

For those of you looking for a stock add-on (spare replacement) rim, I found both the 18" and 19" available here:

http://www.finishlinewheels.com/LAND+ROVER/LAND+ROVER/2005/

I've got one on order (19") for $268 total. I'll let you know how it matches up to the originals. I ride the Synchrones, BTW for those of you looking for 19" tire options. Great ride. More road than off-road.

Hi,

Two weeks ago my family and I went ove a snowy mountain pass in Vermont. I was driving my 2006 LR3 SE with Goodyear Wrangler HP -255/60/HR18 and if it were not for the six foot snow banks we would have gone over the edge. I was wondering if anyone else has had traction problems with these tires. My guess is that others have had similar problems since this and other posts are saying these tires are not very good. Please let me know your thoughts and thank you for this post as I am not going to good into another winter season with these tires.

Don't worry, your tires won't last another year anyway. There's a reason they are called GoodForOneYear's.

Just an update: The spare rim I ordered arrived, and it's an exact match to the OEM rim (as far as I can tell). $268+$250 for a new Synchrone. I'm in a little over $500 for a full-size spare on a 19" (HSE) vehicle. I don't know what LR3 charges, but I'm guessing it's probably double that.

Avon Tires by Cooper

I posted this on the other 18" wheel tire thread, but since this has the definitive list, here's another:

Avon Tech ST - 255/60SR18 All-season sports/truck tire.

Avon is a British brand that Cooper Tire bought about 9 years ago. Not sure where these are made now, but the only NA distributor is TireRack. Here's a review of these on an LR3 posted a couple of days ago:

These tires replaced the Goodyear Wrangler HP on my 2005 Land Rover LR3. What an great upgrade in all respects over the Goodyears. Best of all, they are significantly less in cost, but yet better in every way. Just spend a weekend in Northern California, Mount Shasta area driving on country roads with dirt, mud and snow with no problems. Highly recommend this tire.

I'm going to try these as well - they are a good $100 cheaper than the Goodyears and it's not worth me spending more on a lease vehicle (I should be spending ANYTHING on tires on a 2-year lease!) I'll let you all know how they do in the snow (I'm sure we'll get ONE more snow storm!)

Pro Comp has an A/T in the 285/60-18 size, wish I knew about these before I
got the Toyos.
