Hi:

I have a MY2016 LR4 with 52k miles, regular oil changes, well maintained, both crossover pipes and water pump replaced preventively, new spark plugs done while pipes replaced, no codes.

The engine is noisy, and others in here also complain about it sounding like a diesel. But I am curious to know if others with a V6 SC engine also hear similar ticking patterns as my video recording below. One of the patterns, with the lowest pitch, is slightly irregular. Anything to be worried?
I did not replace the sc coupler yet, maybe that is it? Or timing chains?

thanks

That sounds like the sc coupler to me. You can slip that supercharger belt off and see if the pulley has any free play. If it’s worn out, you can actually reproduce the sound you are hearing by just rotating that pulley back and forth a bit. There are a bunch of youtube videos demonstrating - doesn’t need to be land rover - any eaton supercharger coupler video will do.

Assume that the sound varies with a change in RPMs? Have you been able to isolate it to any place in particular within the engine bay. An engine stethoscope may help if you've not been able to localize it.

Thanks all for the replies. I ordered a stethoscope, arriving tomorrow - it will double down as a cool toy for my kid. Will post back of any findings.

I have a 2015 with 83k miles. Also makes the ticking sound. Well maintained. Check your oil level. Mine is burning multiple quarts of oil in between 7500mi oil changes that I just learned. No leaks. No smoke. Ticking sound became really loud and check engine light came on so I took it in to LR. Was short 4 qts. Timing chain good according to LR and everything checks out. May consider checking oil....may be low and your hearing timing chain. Im not saying any of this is good....or maybe just a trait of the SC6V6. Just sharing. J

Reporting back after I got the stethoscope. Cool little un-expensive toy, btw.
The odd "rock tumbling" sound almost surely coming from the supercharger. I will replace it with the solid plastic unit but gotta wait for a month or so for the indie shop availability.

@John Harris thanks for the note on the oil level. I check it quite frequently and the digital read out is perfectly on mark reaching "max" with car leveled and measuring when cold.
