What’s up, everyone? Thank you for chiming in on this thread. So I’ve had this Land Rover discovery five for about eight months, and I am constantly hearing every now and then this thump clump from the rear end of the vehicle. At one point, I thought it was the tire replacement that is, I no longer have one in there so it’s not that. I am really worried that is the rear differential as anything that has to do with differential is super expensive. Who else has heard this noise? Who else has gone through this? What can we do? What’s available? Thank you for advice and help.

Can you give some more information? Happens when accelerating, braking, at steady speed? Going over speed bumps? While turning a corner? going uphill or downhill?

Update:

The noise only happens when I am fort taking off. But it doesn’t happen always. I’ll get in truck turn it on let it warm up than when I take off I hear the clunk but it is not always. While driving it never makes the noise I don’t abuse my truck either so it’s not on heavy accelerations. Thank you all.

Have the dealership diagnose it.
I'm sure they have heard the noise before.
Guessing can get expensive.

That’s true, let’s see if they will diagnose for free. I live in Miami and it seams like we have become the most expensive city in the world for everything which is a massive BS. Thank you for the help bro I appreciate it.

Do you have the locking rear diff? I have what I believe is the same issue. I usually notice it when turning from a stop. There is a TSB for the transfer case and involves doing a software update and fluid flush. I just did the fluid on my transfer case and rear locking diff (just a drain and fill on both). My fluid was darker than any other vehicle I have ever done with only 58K miles on the fluid. Initial testing says the sound is gone. Which is very surprising as I would have never believed fluid could cause this noise, but I think the dirty fluid is not allowing the locking clutches to disengage smoothly.

If you have not serviced your diff and T-case recently I would say its at least worth a shot.

Hey bro yes I do have the lock differential. Let me ask you a quick question. Did you by any chance take a picture of the location of the front and rear might as well do both while I am down there. Or a service manual pic would also be as helpful. Thank you so much.
