Had alternator die 3.5 hours into a 5 hour trip.
Found one at local napa(Chineseium). Bought and installed in napa parking lot, plus new battery.
Watching voltage it's not steady, and sometimes spikes over 15.1 and BMS cuts it off and I get a split second flicker on all lights.
Headlights also stay same brightness, then start strobing.
1. Figure it's a napa crap alternator, junk out the box.
2. Have a new jlr one at home
3. Did I miss a calibration in GAP, and that will fix it?
4. If it's crap should I just limp it home. Seems to happen less above 65mph.

Any insight that could be helpful? Thanks

Looks like a regular piece of wire.
Couple inches from the positive cable.
Pull the wire out and try to stretch it. The wire will pull apart if the fusible link is blown.

Thanks for being the light in the dark Rover.
I reset BMS, which ended spikes. But didn't charge at all, ran on battery.
Fuseable link looked good.
I stopped to pick up rock sliders, and the seller and I installed as them he wanted the plastic trim. After telling him my tale of woe, he took BMS wire off alternator cleaned with brake cleaner, plugged back in...voila. success.
Made it home.
Ran so good stopped at distillery on way home and bought a congratulatory case of rye.
Thanks again Rover!

@MellonRover what kind of sliders are those? I am scheduled to get a set from Lucky 8 delivered on the 5th that look real similar. Watched an installation video on the Lucky 8 website on the landing page for the product and it seemed so simple that I figured I should just DIY it. How was your installation experience and are you happy with the sliders so far? I'm mostly going to use them to make access and egress easier. Also, I feel it will balance out the look of my full-sized Baja roof rack with same sort of black tubing.

Those are lucky 8's proud rhinos. Easy install.
Regular sockets, impact gun for final tightening, metal trim tool, screwdriver, flashlight and jack used. Oh, and an m8 1.25 tap to chase the threads.
Those are the ones that that cover tank and compressor. They have others like in the video that just protect sill.
They use two body mounts and 6(?) m8 bolts along the outside.
We took our time and bs'd a bunch and it took about 2 hours.
So far I like them, wife will like them more as she has to climb in after the SYA kit and 2"lift.

Question about the tap. I was able to get the side bolt in and seat, but the ones underneath consistently stopped about half way in. I contacted Lucky 8 and sent them the pics they requested. Their response was the underneath holes were notorious for rusting. Interesting observation, but not all that helpful. Also, mine were covered with that plastic trim and I used a metal trim tool to pull the plugs. They seemed to come out clean, so I'm not thinking there is any remaining plastic plug inside the holes blocking the bolts from going to the full depth and seating. Any suggestions/solutions would be appreciated.

Agreed with ftillier - take the bolt to a local reputable hardware store and ask them to identify the thread on the bolt (M8 or M10 by the look of it - but thread pitch is also important, e.g. M8 x 1.25); you then need a tap and a tap wrench:

you then use this to clean up the threads, screw in half a turn and back out a quarter of a turn until you've gone as far as you can. This will help.
