Hi, Everyone

I just purchased a 2006 LR3 SE a few days ago and wanted to ask a couple DYI questions.

I've been wanting a project car for a while now and finally decided on the LR3 because it's just a beautiful vehicle. The one I bought had only 1 owner who took great care of it. However, the last 3 years it just sat out on their carport taking sun damage as the owner could no longer drive. Before they sold it to me, it passed it's safety and emissions checks and has a new set of tires. I'm getting it painted next week, and deep detailed tomorrow. I took it to the shop and the only error code it was receiving was P0174, which is quite common from what I've read here. The likely solution is "repair vacuum leak at engine air filter box assembly". Fortunately, my father-in-law was with me and said it's an issue I could likely resolve myself. Anyway, on to the DYI questions I have.

1. The dash display only shows the external temperature, from what I can gather, it's suppose to have additional information. I've read that I need to do a "hard reset", but just wanted to be 100% sure that this is a good method to attempt before I try. And if I do it, are there any potential negative effects it could have?

2. The audio system sounds excellent on radio/CD, but Aux is only one side (another common issue), I'm considering pulling off the back of the console to be sure it's wires are landed correctly and/or are in good condition. If everything looks good, what could be some additional fixes to consider? For now, I'd just like to plug in a bluetooth dongle into the aux power port to connect my phone, I just need to get the actually aux port functional.

3. It came with an Sirius XM unit installed, but it only reads "no antennae detected". Does it use the same antennae as the radio? The radio works great on the channels it can pick up, but it does have an abnormal amount of distortion on stations that should be picked up just fine. Perhaps there is an issue with the antennae in general?

4. Some of the lettering/numbering has come off of the AC controls, and the shifter and dash are in terrible shape. I've found replacements on eBay, but are there any other highly recommended sites for getting replacement parts. For the dash, I'm considering just getting a dash skin; does anyone here have good experience with the dash skin? Or should I just replace the dashboard proper?

Thanks in advance!

I'm sure I'll have tons of more questions in the days ahead.

I'm not sure which info you think is missing from the dash, but a hard reset never hurts. Keep in mind that you can toggle the info shown on the dash display using the stalk with the turn signals on it. There is a button on the end that you push inward to toggle that info.

I don't have XM on either of my LR3s so I can't help ya there....

....as for the fault. I'd try freshening everything up before I worry about that. I mean new fluids, new air filter, fresh tank a gas and maybe a can of BG44 in it, clean out the throttle body while you are changing that air filter; MAF Sensor too.

Then see what issues you have left; the hard reset itself may even clear out that code. Also I strongly suggest getting yourself an IIDTool by GAP Diagnostics.
