There's no way to perform the recall without dropping the tank all the way out.

I figured as much. Good news is, it’s fine now and I finally for the first time since owning the truck was able to actually fill the tank. I’ve never been able to get more than 17ish gallons in, even after triggering the low fuel light.

Sold our 2013 LR4 (never had any gas smell so never got the recall done). Bought a 2016 with 78k a few weeks back and it smelled like gas when I filled it up and was throwing P0089 code, which I read is fixed with a PCM update.

Took to dealer and had them update PCM and complete the recall. During the repair they found bank 1 oxygen sensor 3 was faulty and replaced it under manufacturer warranty (don’t know what that means). See invoice for recall parts replaced.

My wife drove it home and the engine light came back on. I ran the codes and both P0089 and P008a fired. Can’t clear them. Just filled it up and it REEKS of gas in my garage now. Left LR a message since it is Sunday. I’ll update you all on this saga.

Took my 2012 LR4 HSE in for the fuel tank flange repair at an East Coast LR Dealership 3 weeks ago. Had the recall notice sitting at home for months prior. Didn't want any LR dealer touching my beauty because of the rumors of shoddy workmanship and high prices for repairs($280/hr)...I've always taken it to my mechanic who works only on Land Rovers($185/hr)...Yeah, I do the oil changes/Maf cleaning/blades/lights/filters/cosmetics etc...
So the free flange replacement is free; Had to give them a chance...
Made an appointment and while on the phone they asked me if I needed a loaner car...I declined, guilt I guess, anyway I went there with less than 1/4 tank of fuel.
What a wonderful bunch and experience. I went in and was cordially and promptly greeted. I felt welcomed...
I felt like I was in a Star-ship command center. There were 4 agents, in a straight line, at their stations behind a counter and behind them was a Commander type guy(Chuck) sitting at his own large half circle shaped desk.
I Told them who I was and why. Seconds later a nice guy comes out and starts taken pictures of my vehicle. We talked and I showed him a minor ding on the LR, otherwise it was in perfect condition. When asked, he gave me a couple of other private LR mechanics in the area.(Win-Win). Back at the counter, They said we'll call you in a couple of days...Well I got the call. I arrived back at the dealership and my car was parked under a overhang next to the service entrance. It was all washed, vacuumed and polished head to toe, tires too., unbelievable. I was Happy...Commander Chuck came out and I signed a release and he said "if there's anything else you need, let me know". Wow. I then picked at his brain with a load of questions that had built up over time and he answered them all quite convincingly...One of many was, How do I turn off the alarm for trailer towing. He says "that button right there"...How much for a key fob programming "$230 for 1 or 4"...Wow. How much for fixing the Timing chain repair debacle, "we don't do 'em"(smart)...
Anyway sorry for blathering...
I had a great experience at that dearlership...
I hope this helps somebody...

We have three LR4's.

2016 - local dealership did the job in Aug - smells of gasoline AFTER the job at every fill up. Took it to a different dealership and they leak checked it, let me poke around underneath with them and we cannot find a leak. The second dealership says it's possible that when they dropped the tank something moved a bit and sealed itself up. It's across the country at University - need to get it home in spring and continue investigations.
2015 - purchased used in Oct, that dealership, yet another one, did the job, no issues
2013 - no fuel smell - not going to have this done until necessary, because I don't trust our local dealership to do this correctly (see 2016..)

So for reference - really pleased with the attention and cooperation i received from JLR in Rochester, NY. They knew I was going to be in town for only a few days and I absolutely needed it back that day - they worked to my schedule - dropped the tank twice, leak checked, let me get under there and see for myself. Ask for Jim...

Our 2015 was in for the recall last summer and it smelled of fuel afterwards. The dealer promptly took it back and said they had to replace the fuel flange gasket, the replacement was either faulty or pinched when installing. No charge to fix.

Interestingly my LR4 started smelling of gas just months after I got the notice that parts were available for the recall. Took it to the north Austin dealer last August. Recall work went fine, no issue or smell of gas after.

They did leave me short 1/4 tank of gas as they had to empty some to drop it. They gave me a free fill up on a subsequent visit. Ideally should have filled it back same day.

At the same time they replaced an O2 sensor on the right side as it was throwing a fault. Was free as part of an extended warranty service for my 2014. All in all, great experience with the north Austin service dept.

Part 2: Pulled truck out of garage and noticed a big puddle of gasoline on the garage floor. Parked it in the driveway and it was dripping from the tank around one drop every 5 seconds, so I stuck a drip pan underneath. Got ahold of service manager at LR Colorado Springs and he sent a flatbed to tow it in.

After they dropped the tank they replaced the fuel pump o-ring on top of the tank. They drove it around a while to ensure no leaking. Leak was resolved but check engine light wouldn’t clear. Dropped the tank again and diagnosed faulty in-tank (low pressure) fuel pump. Offered to replace for cost of part and no labor since the tank was already dropped for recall issue.

Will update.

"check engine light wouldn’t clear" and
"replace for cost of part" - doesn't make sense. Communication problems.
