My wife was using the LR4 for a few days while I was traveling because her car is in the shop. This morning she was terrified to tell me what happened while I was gone. The small ******** the gas cap had broken (I have her well trained about the care and feeding of my Rover). I assured her it was already frayed and would be an easy fix. It was only after she breathed a sigh of relief that she admitted to putting mid-grade gas in it before realizing and stopping at half a tank, LOL.

Re the replacement cap, I see the OEM part priced near $50 and a knockoff at $10. Has anyone had issues with the seal or any other aspects of the knockoff cap? It just occurred to me that I can always just remove the strap from the new one and attach it to the original cap if necessary.

In other news my 2013 is at 127K and running fine. I finally got tired of the expensive diet of Gucci oil (Castrol) and switched to Mobil1 but still maintain 5K intervals. I don’t drive nearly as much as I used to now that I’m retired and we moved to a highly walkable neighborhood in Annapolis, MD. My one and only regret about our new place is that the Rover now has to live on the street vs a garage. But I recently got a monthly car wash membership so it gets maintenance washes several times/wk.

i picked up a Chinese knockoff and have had no issues. well, other than the restraining strap not friction fitting in the retaining hole (can't think what else to call that right now).

I understood what you meant and that’s unfortunate since a secure attachment is the point of a restraining strap. I will go ahead and gamble the $10, thanks.

Now I’m seeing a lot of bad reviews regarding the attachment point and more importantly a poor seal at the cap causing CEL faults. I may just get some mono line and whip-tie the broken strap segments together for the time being.

our oem leash broke a year or so ago but cap was fine. i ordered a chinesium tether and installed it on the oem cap. works ok but the tether button is a loose fit in the retaining hold. I might put a dab of glue in there at some point

we will have to agree... to disagree.
I'm over buying chinesium. I would go into a fasteners and connectors shop and have them make me a tether...

Cheers!

I got an OEM cap from FCP due to the cap going missing, itself due to the tether having broken and me not having addressed it promptly. It fit great, and if I have to spend $50 every 12 years, I'm OK with that.
