I've got some really odd issues with the fan on the brides 08 LR3 with the 4.4. It started out as a P0116 temperature problem, then the cooling fan would engage at full strength and give a code P0483. Now it is giving a P0480 and today the idle speed is way up, past 1100 RPMs, after she turned the vehicle off and restarted it is just fine and this problem is intermittent, usually worse from a cold start. I have replaced the fan/clutch assembly, temperature sensor at the thermostat, fan relay, and the dealership we bought it from replaced the thermostat. My research indicates that there may be another temperature sensor but I can't seem to find out exactly where it might be.

I've been doing a ton of research on this, not sure where to go from here.

My local LR specialist (Indy shop) had a customer with similar issue with a fan gone crazy (would run full speed for no reason) and it turned out to be a bad diode in the alternator. A failing alternator is known to cause lots of strange electrical gremlins. If your alternator is original they seem to fail at roughly 10 years (for the LR3), so it is definately worth looking into.

Well she is at the 10 year mark, I am willing to consider that possibility. I'm also thinking of cleaning all the engine grounding connections.

today it's a P0485 so that's sort of a new one. It goes days a ta time just fine and then bangs out another DTC. I'm stopping by the local church for some holy water, but not sure if I should put it in the radiator or apply it topically.

I know this is an old thread but the sensor locations on the 4.4 are the oil temp sensor on the oil cooler next ot the oil filter and one in the coolant housing, which is the coolant temp sensor.

I did replace the alternator, it still runs the fan more than it should but it seems some of our trucks do that. the other day as I was walking a Rangie drove past with the fan roaring away, and a friend with a Rangie has also had the issue for no apparent reason. Seems to run in cycles. Told the bride to maybe turn her radio up :)
