I’ve had my rover for almost a year now and the parking brake has never worked.

I’ve been picking away at rebuilding the entire system over the last few months.

New shoes and hardware, installation as recommended in the workshop manual.

New gears have been replaced in the gear box as the old ones were stripped due to shoes being seized.

Everything went together great and totally textbook.

I am however baffled by the outcome and need help

When I pull up on the EPB lever the motor spins in the opposite direction and drives the threaded cable outwards (to mount) instead of latching and throws a fault code (c1a00-4b, c1a53-68) along with flashing red parking light. I tried switching the red and blue wire around and when the EPB lever is applied it works but It won’t release the cables and I get a fault code (c1a00-4b, c1a53-68) and blinking red light. So I switch the red and blue wire around and I’m able to drive the cables out releasing the brake shoes to mounting position.

So what I can’t figure out is Why is the gearbox motor spinning in the opposite direction, and why is there no response when I press the EPB switch down?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

I have to say you are the only person I know of that has gone this far to fix the rovers parking brakes. Is it required to pass MOT? If not I wouldn't recommend fixing it. It will bind up and break in a few years.

I am pretty sure you need the rover computer to reprogram the system. My 2008 RRS, I haven't even attempted to use the parking brake, since I know they are nothing but issues.
