Just took a trip down to Atlantic City from northern NJ. Mostly highway but got ~20mpg for the roundtrip. Didn't think this car was capable of this...

i was mostly between 65-75 with a few dips down for tolls on the highway. The average speed read 64mph. there was maybe 4 miles of inner city driving in there too.

20 mpg? I can't get that on a downhill road with a 100 mph tail wind! I got almost 19 mpg but around 17 ~ 18 on the average.

After driving about 10K miles in 6 months, although I am averaging about 16mpg, I can easily get 18-19mpg even 20mpg on the highway.

I am definitely pleasantly surprized by LR4's fuel economy which according to EPA is 12/17 (city/Hwy). When I bought it, I was ready for 10/15 (city/Hwy) - since most cars don't even achieve the EPA numbers.

So it is by no means a gas saver, and if you drive it like a sports car the economy will drop like a brick, however it does do quite well once its at a steady highway speed.

Cheers!

if you are reading this from the trip computer dont fool yourself.

I did my own readings from gas mileage app for the Iphone and I mostly vary from 9 to 15mpg.

15 mpg is if I drive like an old lady.

Just got back from an 800 mile trip on the California coast - combination of 65-mph freeway and 55-mph or less windy Pacific Coast Hwy. 6 people, a dog and 2 cargo boxes on the roof. Averaged about 17 mpg.

I find my computer is about 1.5mpg more optimistic than my manual calculations...the mpg is not ver good, and as a result, the range of a tank, under city driving conditions is very poor
