Swap out extended rails for short rails

I have been looking for a roof rack and happened upon a Safety Devices UK Expedition rack for a good price. It, like what seems all others, only works with the short rails. my 15 LR4 has the extended rails.

Is it possible to swap out the extended rails for the short rails?

If so, other than the short rails, what else would be needed?

there's a strip of moulding that covers where the front part mounts. I don't know if you can get just the part that goes from the windshield up the roof bump, or if you need to buy the whole thing and then trim it:

I finally found a rack that works with the extended rails.

Instead of all this modification, I think I am just going to go with it.
