so, bushway has white lettering on his tires with black wheels... on a fuji.

I am in the process of getting black 18" compomotive wheels, and I think the Goodyear Wrangler SilentArmor. I can get them with black walls or with the white lettering. Trying to get opinions on what looks good.

What do you all think? Show off the lettering or ****** the son b**ch out?

Im also totally stuck on what to do about ride height and tire size.

  • P265/60R18 ~ 30.5" (spare fits, stock access height is fine)
  • P265/65R18 ~ 31.5" (spare deflate?, little rub)
  • 265/70/R18 ~ 32.6" (would need liams or rods, 2" lift? Rubbing at even lifted access height, LOOKS BAD ASS)

Additional variables:

1. At stock, normal height (and my rack) i've only got a few inches before I hit the garage. (let alone parking structures, but hell thats already tricky)
2. I'll still run my factory 19" wheels and roughly OE tire size during summer and non-off road events. So doing johson rods or whatever might look silly in summer?
3. What do I do with the spare in winter if I go BIG. Roof rack? Probably would also look pretty good, but i'd need a solid mounting method for that, and i'd still have the garage height issue. Spare would stick up above the rack even more!

opinions, thoughts, general discussion is appreciated. (I love obsessing over this crap)

Hope he doesnt mind me reposting, but this is Bushway's pic from the showoff thread.

OK, EDIT... he basically answered my question in http://www.landroverworld.org/forums/showpost.php?p=138454&postcount=29

Johnson Rods at normal ride height. 265/65/18 tires.

I just responded to your question in the LR3 section. Let me know if you have any further questions. I have a 2010, so it is actually Alaska white, which is more of an off-white. I like the white walls, and it certainly draws a lot more attention that this rig is set up for off-road as opposed to Starbucks (not knocking Starbucks, because I seem to end up there quite often as well). Either way, regular or white wall, you can't go wrong. Also, I don't think the rods would look inappropriate if you didn't have your bigger wheels on. Even on stock wheels, I think the rods make the LR4 look a lot better. As for your spare, I didn't realize you had a roof rack. Definitely throw it up there. If I had one, that's where mine would be.

So, I need to calculate the exact height add that the larger tires on 18" wheels adds, plus the .. what 2"? that the rods add.

Wow that looks great! Yes the rods are 2". With the 265/65R18 and rods, you can drop it into access height and pull straight into the garage. As long as you aren't turning with it in access height, you'll be fine.

Only two issues I can see with that is 1. wife forgets to lower. And 2. If I do put the spare up there, i have even less room. I may try and go the deflate route and keep a compressor with me. I love the way your truck looks with those tires.

Thanks! Yeah, by the looks of it, I don't think you would clear the garage with a tire up there. It would look awesome though!

So my rough math.

255/55/19 Stock tires height= 30.04 (calculated and measured on my car, very close)
265/65/18 height=31.56

so adds to body height of .76" if I go that tire size.

So, +2" for the rods (is it really exactly 2")

= 2.76"... giving me what? .24" of clearance at normal height?

LOL
