Probably discussed somewhere, but traveling and dropping my daughter off at a new university in a new city…

I have 2 days to resolve, if possible before leaving it with her.

2016, 70K. I drained and filled the transmission fluid at about 60K. It’s been totally dependable.

Got hung up in border crossing stop and go traffic for almost an hour, 90F outside. Watched temperature the entire time, no issues, but an hour in Drive going nowhere..

We were loaded to the gills, but no heavier than previous trips and no heavier than a full load of 7 people. No issues on our 7 hour drive.

Driving around the new city, Montreal, noticed the following.

Driving downhill, 20 mph, RPM too high, probably 1,500 or so. I would call it free wheeling, but not sure of the correct term. Also delayed upshift, 2nd to 3rd? Was paying attention to traffic…

Forum discusses possible causes as transmission valve/bridge seals and brake light failure.

I will check the lights, and I cannot obviously do the bridge seals while traveling. And not just going to give it to the dealership at this point as it seems fine otherwise.

But very concerned about and dependability issues for my daughter.

Thoughts? Thanks!

I would disconnect the battery for 15 minutes. That will clear the transmission learned adaptations.
See if that helps.

My LR4 holds gears going downhill nicely, allowing some amount of engine braking. I've also seen it hold a gear going uphill at what I consider fairly light throttle. How hilly is it where you usually drive, compared to Montreal?

I've been paying more attention when driving down my street and can confirm that my LR4 will hold 2nd at 20mph and not upshift to third. Ends up in the 1500-2k rpm range. I'd venture yours is doing the same and that is normal.
