hey, first post and I did search; came up empty. it's actually a friend that owns a 2012 LR4 that she bought pre-owned and it came with only one key, which she occasionally misplaces. Dealership has told her on those occasions that to get a new key she would have to tow the vehicle to them and then pay about $500. That is nothing like the process for smartkeys for the Mercedes autos I own. With a MB, you must prove ownership and then dealer orders a key based on your VIN. Prices vary widely but $260-$400 is about the range. Most important lesson I've learned about MB keys is that you can't buy a used key on eBay and reprogram it, like you can for a Lexus. I did some searching for her and found keys being sold under $300:

(I do hope posting links is allowed here)
Would this key require dealer programming or is it DIY?
Thanks in advance.
