As a brand new LR owner I won't need any scheduled maintenance for quite a while but I was wanting some feedback from any of the more seasoned LR veterans on their experiences with this. I'm well aware service varies wildly from dealer to dealer. I guess I'm talking about prices for different services done, problems or good experiences with service advisors, and any helpful tips or things to ask when you take your truck in for service. Also, any experience/luck with independent service?

Hi,

I'm not trying to "jinx" your luck, but I'm guessing that you will take at least 1 non-scheduled trip to the dealer before your first regular maint. I've just completed 10 months of ownership, and I have had two trips to the dealer. Both were crushing blows to what I expected to be a wonderful experience.

My 1 year/15000 mile service will take place in July of this year. I will at that time have roughly 12,000 mile on the LR4. I'm still not sure what to think about potentialy going 24 months with only 1 service, but that is LR schedule and I'm willing to see what happens with it. I'm guessing at this point I will either purchase an extended warranty or sell the truck before the regular warranty is up.

I wish you the best of luck. I wish I could give you a better feel of what service should look like, I just don't have enough to go on. You may need to post your question in the LR3 forum that would have long timers.

Well yeah I mean of course something could need to be fixed outside of " scheduled" maintenance. Coming from BMW with their 4 year/50k mainentance warranty I'm a little spoiled but they also advocate the 15k mile oil change and maintenance schedule. Was hard to get used to at first. I opted to pay for just an oil change every 7500 or so. I won't have anywhere near 15k within the first year but I will take advantage of the free first service next spring.

LRnewbie,
I beleive you mentioned your LR is a lease in a previous thread. IMO there is no need for you to "waste" the money on an unscheduled service. I had my scheduled one year service a few months ago and everything went extremely well. I have had no issues with my LR so far.

I can dEfinitely see the logic in that thinking with the lease. My X3 was owned so I had a more vested interest financially. hopefully the LR will prove to be just as problem free. I didnt have a single problem with the bimmer.

LRnewbie, don't you lease your Land Rover?

Yes I do lease it. But I will have to pay for the 30K mile service prior to the end of my lease. It is a 3.5 year lease. So my point in this post was just to try and get a sense of owners experiences with service. What to expect. What might need to be looked at and how much it might cost.

I do not believe the laws of physics change simply because the car was manufactured in Europe. Living in Texas where the car will be driven in 100+ degree heat and towing with the truck on a regular basis, I can not bring myself to go more than 5000 miles between oil changes with a synthetic.

Hey LRNewbie,

I was wondering the same thing. I think we are in a similar boat, as I also am leasing mine for 3.5 years and do not put a lot of mileage on it. At the end of year one, next February, I am likely going to have about 5-8K miles on my truck, but I was told me to make sure I had my first service done in the first year or at 15K (whichever comes first). I have only had to take my LR4 in for service once based on a letter I got that the computer was eligible for an upgrade (the maps) for free. It was a great experience. I know if I owed it, I may opt to have the oil changed more often, but for my maintenance that I do after the first year, I am going to wait until they say since I am leasing it as well. No sense doing it early. IF I owned it, that would be different.

I have leased my last 3 cars because I take excellent care of them, don't do a lot of mileage, and want a new car every 2-3 years. It just works out well for me. If I was going to buy a car, I would likely go for the Toyota Land Cruiser.

I'll keep you posted!

I am going to have my first maintenance scheduled in the next 2-3 weeks. I was looking back through this thread and didn't find what I was looking for. My question is what is included in this first "maintenance" that is provided at the dealership? Obviously oil change, filter, etc. I just wanted to make sure I knew what to look for that they checked on or topped off, will they take a look at the brakes & rotors? Knock on wood I have had exactly ZERO issues so far.
